I actually now need to buy a couple of I’m going to amass an Interstate roster; need these, GP38s, GP7s and F units in Southern and a couple Interstate RS3’s to cover most of my interest period
Don’t forget the SD 24. Plenty of those up there as well.

Although the SD-35s didn't work the coal branches. Bet you already knew that, though. :)
Whilst the big SD’s both 24 and 35 didn’t work the branches they certainly maintained a presence in the area. They were the primary power used to get the big trains back down to Bulls Gap and beyond.
PS : love your layout.

Thank you!

Yep, wish I had room for some Appalachian Division main line. Early SDs are particular favorites.

As I Model the SP in Southern California in the mid seventies SD35's are a must. They were regulars on Tehachapi, Beaumont and the Coast line. I often saw them used as trim switchers in West Colton too. But my primary need was for six just for my Kaiser Ore drag pool. I scratch built the first one on a Kato SD9 chassis, but Atlas saved me a great deal of work when they came out with them. I'm up to eight in my fleet.

I'm guessing that its one of the locomotives that didn't have the molds get lost when all the builder's in China went bye-bye...

I feel like Atlas is cranking out a steady stream of SD35 releases (they just announced another run) in N scale, and I'm trying to understand why.

Why is this a problem?

Are there any big time SD35 fans out there?

Me.  :D N&W had 80 of em - very common on coal drags and whatnot in the mountains of southern West Virginia.

That said, I have enough SD35s.

SD24 and 35’s could be found on Southern’s Clear Fork Branch on the Arco Train. The Arco loaded at Consol’s Arco loadout, fed by the Consol Matthews Mine in the remote Tackett Creek area of Claiborne County, TN along the KY/TN state line. The Arco served Georgia Power’s Plant Harlee Branch and typically ran with GCSX gondolas with Consol logos, but Silversides were also used on occasion. What makes this operation very unique is that the Arco ran as a radio train and also loaded as a radio train on Arco’s loop track. The Arco would also run over a portion of the L&N to from Southern trackage at Jellico to Clear Fork Junction at Holton on L&N’s Knoxville Dickson.

That's good to know. I believe the SD35s may also have worked coal loadouts in Alabama too.

The context earlier was the Appalachia Division, and especially the former Interstate branches.

Would love them to release the U23B's(with sound). Seems like its never gonna happen :(

I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

What's not to like?  PRR, PC and early CR! :)

Yeah, but once you have some, you probably have enough.
Conrail got 50 SD35s while they had almost three times as many SD40s.

Which reminds me, I REALLY hope Atlas does SD40s after the SD45 because I'd love some that are newer than 20 years old.

No one has given the most obvious answer. Atlas keeps making SD35s because they sell.

Is the first one between the U28C's?
