What would kind of be cool is if you could pay a yearly fee and beta test new locomotives, then report back to them with feedback.  But if all they are going to do is release some offbeat fantasy scheme to members, it won't go over well.  It will truly have to be a unique model.

It's not $360 a year. It's $29.99. So it might get you one of those old Reader's Digest psuedo-N scale thingies.

I think the success of this will hinge on the loco offering- if this is gonna net you a Merry Christmas E7 or USRA Mike it's gonna flop bad.

But if this will net you something with one off tooling, like an MKT E7 with the side fluting, or MP E7's with portholes, or one of the steamers they have only made in HO, like the ATSF 2-8-2's it will be successful.

Thanks for the correction! When I first read that I was thinking $30/month was a lot of coin for a newsletter and a loco of uncertain value!

$30/year is definitely in "you get first dibs on the Merry Christmas F7"!

Per BLI's Facebook page, the "exclusive locomotives" offered to members will be fantasy paint schemes or unique road numbers on already released models.  So it does not appear that new tooling will be offered to members.

It will probably be the color scheme of the Choo Choo shoes, and it's custom sound set will be the sound files from said shoes..

if they go through with this, they'll have more money tied up in marketing and newsletters than actual ROI..
what they need to spend money on at BLI is quality control. Most of their issues recently have been directly related to this. Also R&D to help with their n scale sound (basically capacitance)

But who am i? just an arm chair modeler.. I must say I really like their new switcher in paragon4... I just think this investment could be spent better in other parts of the business.
