Got a start on the master for the REA 20’ Unit-Haul containers that go with the G85 flatcar. Needs a little cleanup, but I am pleased with how it is coming along. And I’m finally finding some of my tools and such for future projects.

Amazing how complicated a simple “box” can be to make.

Best regards,

And so scenery begins! Been a couple weeks of working on shaping the initial landforms and (primarily) waiting for stuff to dry. Today I painted the ground, the track, added some initial course burnt turf along the rail, and then some kudzu. It’s my first time messing with @davefoxx ’s recipe and it was a pretty quick learning curve. I’m modeling mid to late October so I mixed some yellow leaves in, I’ll probably need to go back and hit those with some thinned brown paint. Overall I’m happy with this first pass, and the vines are going to end up blending up into the trees. The section I’ve chosen for clay though, will need some more work. Well let this dry and then see what else it needs, I’m thinking a bit more sculptamold to help build up the actual clay surface. But for my first scenery work in years I’m pleasantly surprised, and there’s plenty more work left to do.

...

I've run two unit trains thru it since and of course no derails. However, I did manage to forget to screw the coal jar back on under the layout... again.

...

Get a second jar.  When the full one comes off, the empty one goes on.  Every time.

I haven't posted much in many months, in no mood for trains due to sad life events getting in the way, but here's a shot of the bridge I built for a friend's layout getting scenicked. I did the rough contours, buddy Doug the rock castings and dirt and stuff. Still needs guard rails and few more details. More shrubs and trees coming, more on my HOn3 a "Little bit of Colorado" thread for those interested.

Tim:  I like the new bridge, but will miss the old one!  It's been there as long as I've been on Railwire...

Hi Tim - congrats on installing the ‘big bridge’. I remember seeing it on display at some long past local show and being mightily impressed. It’ll be a showpiece on your layout without any doubt.

I had to remove it to do the work and just forgot to put it back on.  It was in the way and would get contaminated with sawdust etc.  In normal operation during the climb to the mine I remove it, screw on a lid with a small hole, pour it into the mine silo, remove the lid and screw it back under the dumper.  That avoids any chance for me to be dumb.

Thank you, and yes that would have been the Trains 2006 show at Cameron Rec Centre in Burnaby.  The benchwork section had just been completed and primed, and the bridge was displayed prior to its first test fit at home.  I remember the day well as it was raining furiously when we went to load it out at the end of the day, and we were concerned about the Masonite backdrop getting wet and warping.

I actually have a couple of photographs from that show:

Finished my Chicagoland RPM CGW kit today. I added brass grabs and ladders. Still needs weathering but that will come at a later date.

The spikers and spike pullers are available from Baldylox on Etsy. I also built a few of his tampers. The tie cranes are Showcase Miniatures.

Decided to add more details to my ATSF madame queen and 3800 class 2-10-2 drawings like adding the piping for the sanders. It really completes the models and i can save the STL files as final models.

Very nice.
For those interested and have a 3D printer, there are some very nice MOW items located here (very reasonably priced)
