OK, I promised a video to prove it actually runs.... and yes, I started this project a full year ago, and got the two beater locomotives four months before that.

Now, on to the next part - putting the Tsunami sound decoder in it......!

I started my Southern MS-4 build over the week. I didn't quite like the headlight on the Kato model and I ended up drawing up a new smokebox and headlight. I think it turned out well but still needs a few little adjustments.

I also decided to add ESU sound to this model. Might as well right? My decoder, an ESU 58923, and other supplies should be here tomorrow or sometime early this week, but my speakers came in and I drew up an enclosure for it. It's a Soberton 8x12 speaker. Hopefully the enclosure works well and the decoder install isn't too painful so I can carry on with the detailing.

After adding a new siding along the waterfront, I ordered some scrapyard castings a laid them in preliminary spots. I fixed up the pewter cast recessed flatcar model I had laying around to test fit my crane on it as a mobile unit that can be used by the LIRR IS on either side of the channel. The scrap side will use an electromagnet, and the aggregate side a clamshell to help load from the shore to the barges.



The scrap yard castings came with gondola loads too, where they can be loaded or unloaded anywhere on the premises.

Started the weekend a little cold ... I know it's not the frozen Tundra of Greenbay or DaBears, or even Buffalo - but 20 degrees at game time with 20 mph winds are still pretty cold ..

However, my team won.





To get back to railroading - I finished the 2nd of my bridge projects .. this one is 70 feet long .. 108 inch high Through Plate Girder   https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6427088

Been concentrating on prep for Springfield, but found some time to inch the Conrail OCS #10 forward. Since my Conrail era is centered around 1980, I’ve switched to six-wheel roller bearing trucks. I’m sill keeping the green paint job as there was a short overlap before four-wheel trucks were installed. I just discovered though when snapping these pics that the bolster height for the NYC 20CL RPO six-wheel truck is different than all of the Kato four-wheel trucks. So yet another modification is needed for the floor/underbody component. Grab irons remain to be installed as well.

   Went to Plano TX train show Saturday and bagged a Kato/Atlas red Burlington N SD9 for bargain price ($40.) since no box.  It runs good and a keeper.  I will add number board decals and probably will leave the rapido couplers for nostalgia.  Photo of me is blurred because person who took it was not used to my phone.  This was a nice show and really a good crowd.  Saw Rivet Miscounter and several other area model train folks.





OK, looking closely at the rapido couplers, they were clipped in, so I switched out to MTL 1015-1.  Then I noted it ran extremely smoothly, like my new 2023 Atlas BN SD-9??  Also, I noted only the cab side headlight worked.  Flipping it over, I saw "LifeLike".  Looked at Spookshow and found it is a 1990s locomotive and only came with the one non-directional headlight.  For the price, it still was not too bad, so lesson learned to look more closely at what you want to buy.  Still, this was a pleasant surprise since the paint and detail are so sharp and it runs so smoothly.

Hi all,

I’ve been very busy the last few months. That coupled with using the garage as a workshop for a few house projects has really hampered progress on my modules. Since I’ve been traveling a lot for work, I decided to pack a tool box with rolling stock projects that I can work on in a hotel room. Many of these are nearing completion.

First up, a trio of Virginian Baby Trainmasters. All received 3d printed coupler boxes for true scale couplers which included footboards. The pilots got grab irons, MU hoses, and coupler cut bars. Cabs got sunshades, and correct horns. The short hoods received grab irons and all of the number boards were decaled accordingly. There is still a little touch up to do on paint and weathering. All three have loksound decoders and need a little tweaking. Getting close though!



Next up are a few rolling stock projects. Two cabooses, one Reading for the incoming BLI T1, the other one is a WM in this transition scheme that I really enjoy. Both were custom decal projects. Also picked up a WM boxcar and a Reading hopper. All received metal wheels with weathered faces, and True Scale Couplers. Still need to paint the handrails on the cabeese - not looking forward to that!







Finally, I’ve been working on weathering two steam locomotives, a B&O EM-1 and my WM Potomac. I used pastels and powdered graphite and will seal the deal with dulcoat when it warms up a bit.





Thankfully space in the garage is about to open up, so I’m hopeful to get to work on mode railroad projects again soon!
