I ordered 3 Intermountain F7’s, standard DC.  They shipped me 3 DCC with sound units in error. I emailed them today letting them know.  It will be interesting to see how they respond.

Well hopefully they don't 'beat the devil out of' whoever picked that order.

I just ordered some BN rainbow Fs for my empire builder train
BN Hockey F7A
NP Lowey F7B
GN Simplified F3B
and GN Blue F7A
As should have sound, Bs should be DC.

Mine are Northern Pacific. I am not a fan of lower green strip color. Hoping to exchange it.  I just hope that happy accident doesn’t get someone in trouble.

In 2022 I ordered some carbon black hoppers from Scale Trains. They shipped six HO ES44's with a retail value of around $1200 or thereabouts. The packing slip indicated the N scale carbon black cars, so I figure they'd have no idea where they went. I contacted them and they asked I ship them back to Tennessee, which I did, and my actual order showed up in a few days.

BLW once sent me a wrong loco - same road, but also the same number.  Like you, I did the honest thing and told them.  They sent me the new loco and told me to keep the first one shipped, which I proceeded to renumber and put in my fleet.  Probably both a nice gesture of repayment coupled with the actual cost of making the return probably netting out close to zero.

It was a pleasant surprise, but I think most places would give you some kind of extra value as a token of good will, i.e., a gift card for $25 on your next purchase or something.

Not so much as a thank you from Scale Trains.

No response to my email yet.  So do I spend more of my time calling them and trying to talk to them?  Or do I sell them at a nice discount and recoup my funds and figure out plan B.

I would at least attempt calling them, getting a person on the phone.  Go the route of selling them and 5 minutes after they are out of your hands they are telling you to send them back

I think this letting you keep the error is getting to be a standard procedure -- the big stores say for Xmas gifts returns just forget it and keep the stuff, it's too much hassle with personnel, paper (computer) work, re-stocking, re-adjusting the stock numbers, etc. At least up to a certain gift amount, like $100 (I forget exactly what the cut-off was). My experience was with BL, an old model E unit sold under the PCM brand. It's catalog number was re-used for the GG-1 when they re-organized, so first I got the wrong parts. I wanted the truck frame (outer piece) on the trucks. The old number now referred to a HO Gg-1. And then they thought "frame" meant the body frame, so I got an HO body frame, HO pilot (I wanted an N one)-- for the E7, at least. I got it straightened out but they told me just to keep the wrong parts.

Somebody need an HO BLI E7 frame? Let me know. Free!

Wait...let me get this right. You ordered 3 DC IM F-7s and they instead sent you 3 DCC IM F-7s. You told them about it and they didn't respond. Other than the surprise to hear that IM come out with something that they said they would (an entirely different thread was created about this), I don't understand what the problem is...

You: Hey, Intermountain. You sent me the wrong engines. The one's you send should cost twice as much as I paid. What would you like me to do?

It was a hobby shop that made the error.

I ordered a mail order wife from Ukraine and got the tail wheel from a burnt soviet SU 27 and three tins of expired yogurt.  Not sure what my next step is.  LOL

Joe

Thanks for that chuckle Joe!  That was good!

That's unfortunate, I couldn't be happier that you guys are doing this and I'm a die hard N scaler. To me, I see this as another revenue stream for MT that will allow the company to hire quality people that care about the product they make. It's a win win for HO and N scalers alike.
