Are any Manufature reps on here?

Can one of you please do the SD45-2 in Nscale since Intermountain wont rerun them... ?? Preferably I'd like to see Athearn just down size their HO model to the Nscale model.. I need 10 more.. plus other roads for my layout..

I think it would sell.. plenty of you have don SD40-2 (4), F units (4), GP38 (3), GP7 (2)..... I dont think it'd hurt to do an SD45-2 from another manufacturer.

Build it and they will come..

Please

Your manufacturer comps aren't likely to move the needle much.

EMD SD40-2, in production for more than 15 years with nearly 4,000 built, for nearly every railroad of the time.
EMD F7 (though you say F Units) produced for over 4 years with again, nearly 4,000 units, including B Units for nearly every railroad.
EMD GP38/-2 combined for almost 3,000 units across a majority of railroads.
EMD GP7/9 combined for nearly 7,000 units.

The SD45-2 with 136 units, was produced for 2 years for 4 railroads with almost 2/3rds of them built for the ATSF.

Good luck to you though.
Are they hard to find on the secondary market?

yep,
theres plenty of "one off" locos built... SD45-2 was in use on SBD, CRR MRL NS CSX... plenty of schemes to paint.

Build it and they will come..

Assuming a suitable chassis could be found, why not do a 3D printed shell?   The 3D technology is getting pretty good.

Have you looked in any of the 3D marketplaces to see if someone offers an SD45-2 shell, in any scale?  Digital models can be re-scaled.

Have you checked with InterMountain to see if they have SD45-2 bodyshells on hand?

sounds like a Scale Trains or Rapido thing.  They seem to have the cash to invest in small return projects...

ScaleTrains probably the most logical there. Trying to recall if the 45-2 is on the same frame as the 40-2. If so, they have a chassis ready to go.

Now what I need to do is convince ST they have the makings for a U50C from the GTEL8500 parts bin, and the U50 and C855 from the Standard Turbine mechanism. Just like the prototype. Since they’re in love with UP oddities as it is already, you’d figure they’d be a receptive audience.

Kato’s chassis is too fat.

Should be - that was the reason for the porches.  An old Kalmbach diesel spotter's guide or two says that both are 68' 10".  Same truck centers, too (44' 6').  Happy kitbashing and frame swapping!

(edited to add truck centers)

Doesn't U50 have partially-narrow hood, where the Turbines have full width bodies? That would require a whole new mechanism (and shell of course).  Only reusable parts would be the trucks.

No they have to make new trucks, the U50C has two 3 axle trucks :)

I assume CRR stands for Clinchfield..

Intermountain is listing Clinchfield as a future run for the SD45-2 with 4 more numbers.. (8 total if you have the 4 from the first run.)

As I recall they used a modified Atlas SD50 chassis.. (or Atlas Trucks and guts on a custom chassis)..

I could see ST doing the SDP45 before they do the SD45-2.. but if the SD40-2 does well in the midst of Intermountain already releasing it, who knows..
