"How d'ya suppose he did that?  Think he drank the paint and pissed it on?" Bill's Hobby Shop circa 1978.

"How d'ya suppose he did that?  Think he drank the paint and pissed it on?" Bill's Hobby Shot circa 1978.

Thats a great quote!!.. but the back story of what I'm working on..

On the Caboose Stop Videos, anytime we show something custom painted or weathered that looks half way decent.. Carol says "Nicely Done"

But... we have an HO customer who has been around for 30+ years and he used to 'custom paint' stuff.... however, he is legally blind (to the point of needing a cane to move around... so... you can only imagine how the models looked..

So.. I was going to come with an image of a locomotive or freight car with a piss poor paint job, with the quote "Nicely Done"

The problem is, I haven't seen any of his paint jobs at the shop in a while, so I figured I'd post a request looking for photos.. and we can discuss them, and I can use one of them as a pattern instead.

There might be some examples in the eBay amusement thread in the Crew Lounge (if the listings are still up on the website).

The above is pretty...good (?) but here are a few others to give you some options:

My favorite part of this one is the guy jumping out of the nose of the loco, but the 'weathering' is interesting as well:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/203184824156?hash=item2f4ec25f5c:g:nAYAAOSw8JRftBgA&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwDAL9LZNm91pOY4yNcGZkMcPUMh2TRIbPu6k3rQVzN0iV9Qrek0UrO6dAFM3I1BJxIASGtaxVnZ44d9aWKX40lCi%2FG%2BVhhYwoG6ZDghk5h1Nx9EM1eLbxMUz%2Fsw2Cb4%2B7obL8qA1z7rCw9%2F3Ui0C8gul%2B1eNjbceC5Nz1ZNzD%2FEWWf8YdnU1%2BeSeONInReAzkfGn0LgNe5icExkaraG6tE1lfRwKIRWgKE4PFUdKDDgMPmmAm05HE2YkUEmvUrWBFA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6Kgk9GOYw

Here's a boxcar with...graffiti (?). I don't understand where the green roof comes into play, however:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/224758624029?hash=item3454a86f1d:g:geEAAOSwcCthxxlc&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4G1PekJMJB85mKdlgDImUDx7P4TOVQIwHEMH7kHpE5fYToUfWL6V8ZkNUR2gtIQPr88h7iHuAlhHgQZkutt4vSbLF04I6gZXPDDqVnln0l4WSEDRIAK8eu5on6N3E%2FMcyXZYHe1sIWWa7wgQ699nPyMhlcycVBRQhDX1ne%2BwLH9VCpEyV%2FIoooOwCaVg1nU%2B0E%2FYa6OYvSQnTeQP8KRna%2FVFhBztRve83CCE%2BM7V2yLExzmzg1tqkCh3zO8xzkhIWUTt6Zwv18I8myM9fwQXrwfJhDfZBY7iUWm5Ap8kmf%2Bn%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR5zkoNGOYw

More from the same guy, all of his listings are perfect examples (but the caboose is my favorite)...best part is his name is allaboardcustomtraindesigns and that he's asking stupid prices:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/325077167514?hash=item4bb01bed9a:g:LfYAAOSwumNiHaaE&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwMBFTICh4CDWwAAnE1H%2B%2FcF4dH%2Fij4kbQJk8kZxS30cGeK0BatJhTggAI4yLEhOx738AlOOBcgzusFtmS657seRd8uh37xPkTW3g3cq8LgJ7i0%2Bo5cLmGhcjTsN3dVfJx9FEp68KSWDVkqmmAVm3FEUVD3OX64qGr9Qyj7GZ5HDh3PVb9Jj%2Fim1AnMh68eLL46jomRy5UOQWXwIMxYKhwkhsSD7nLCbpLKzpdPqX%2F5WmlEAlZR9yjXpiCujpdhgGLw%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9SEtNGOYw

The caboose:

Another personal favorite...a Readers Digest junk engine painted as a junk engine:

Custom painted Atlas boxcar...LOOK:

Lines too sharp, minor orange peeling doesn't qualify.

I could do better than that at 10 years old - with no other modelers in the family.  I won't say my painting was GOOD, but it was better than that!

One of the model magazines, many years ago, had a review of a brass model of a caboose.  The first, and probably last, from a new company.  Besides the usual scale, assembly, and operational problems, it was "factory painted", apparently by dipping it in a bucket of orange paint.  Drips, runs, hair, fingerprints, etc.

And only fifty bucks! What a bargain!

BTW it is a perfect listing to put in the "eBay amusement" thread.  :)

There's a Facebook group called something like "I showed my therapist this model and they agreed I can kill myself. It's pretty dark, but a good potential source

Didn't one of the big Canadian roads have a loco in a similar scheme years ago?
