I think they stopped doing prototypical graffitti after that weird lawsuit from a tagger. If I remember correctly, Joe said Microtrains won the case but couldn't discuss the particulars.

Prototypical graffiti is out, regular or loosely based graffiti per the car is allowed

To each their own though. I get the sentiment that in real life, it's criminally defacing private property, but we are imitating or re-creating things we see in real life. When I have a long string of graffiti cars running around the layout at a train show, people always comment on "how cool" it is to see it on the models. I doubt they are saying graffiti is cool, just that we have it re-created on the model. And to be honest, I think it's way cooler to see a string of newly painted box cars or locomotives moving down the tracks than a line of cars with a bunch of gang signs on them.

If you google around on the topic there are those who argue a grafitti-ist can sue a railroad for painting over his/her work...

Nevertheless I'll be ordering the CP cars...

These CP cars will get my money. The big red ones were boring.

MT needs to do an alphabet soup pack of weathered covered hoppers. An AEX string of them is taking shape on my workbench.

I spent last night trying to finalize the industry types on my layout expansion.  Auto parts factory went from possible to must have when I saw these 60 ft box cars.  They could also serve a newsprint company as they do at full scale, so I doubt I could over buy, LOL.  Just change the name plates on the industries to justify the purchase.

CP plate F NSC built cars matching this MTL release are occasionally found in CN trains I see on the Halton sub... So that's no excuse!

I'm very glad that I model a pre-graffiti era and do not have to worry about this type of 'weathering' beyond the odd moniker. What graffiti there was in late 80's was negligible at best.

Regardless, graffiti means my wallet is safe from these offerings... which is good because my wallet is not safe when MTL does weathered releases in my era

I understand the notion, but if you are a modeler who doesn't mind running "non-prototypical" graffiti cars, it shouldn't bother you to run them on non-prototypical locations, should it?     I mean, it had to have happened somewhere at some time, shouldn't it?  I understand it is a slippery slope and pretty soon you might be running steam and diesel together.  The horror and shame!  I remember modeling Chessi/B&O and picking 1973 as that was the last year the F units were running, but then Athearn came out with SD40-2's, and I extended the lifespan of the F's to accommodate both.

I am just kidding you of course, but we as modelers sometimes overdo it on prototypical accuracy, even when the main joy is still fine running trains, even with small discrepancies. I figure I will continue to compromise until I can open my own company and call it "Stuff that Jeff likes Trains."

I wonder how much they have to change it before it ceases to be a copyright infringement.  I also wonder if they can reproduce graffiti that has subsequently been taken out of service or painted over, i.e., it ceases to exist.  What if they just changed the road number so it is not accurate?  Even if they say that road number is hidden under the graffiti?  Not that the incorrect road number wouldn't be called out by some here, whether it was visible or not.

In any case, MT does a great job with these and I don't need any more rolling stock per se, but I am basically attempting to buy a weathered rolling stock fleet when pulling out the old airbrush would be sooooooo much cheaper.  If only the other mfgs  would at least mimic the primed for grime models by Athearn.  Is there any reason we need shiny plastic cars as rolling stock?
