How far south should I have to move to get away from Tim Horton's? half the reason I moved to Iowa was to get away from that nasty coffee and subpar donuts.

The only Canadian fast food America might need is Harvey's.

Yeesh, seem to be spreading away from the border areas with Canada or places Canadians congregate (Erie being one). When shooting the WNYP in Olean I'd go to the Dunkin beside the Microtel just to spite TH.

I go to a Scooters Coffee near the office for my daily cup... it's not bad, and the staff are great. The Scooters is Hiawatha, to stay on topic, borders the ex IC that will either be abandoned or replace the IANR into Cedar Rapids.

Before TH became the powerhouse it is today I remember having a coffee at one in Pickering, Ontario. It was a dingy little place with too many day old donuts and far too smokey... coffee was ok but I preferred Coffee Time, seemed a cleaner chain. It's so weird that TH grew in the way it did, but I suppose they had talented management and easy access to capital.

It was very sad watching Tim Hortons run Robins Doughnuts out of buisness in Manitoba.

They oversaturated the market (often building stores right across the street from one another so you didn't have to make a left turn for your morning coffee) and then once they had a monopoly on the market they let their quality slide into the proverbial crapper.

I don't remember the last time I had a Tim's Coffee, gives me a stomach ache. For fast food coffee its usually McDonald's or A&W for me. I try to brew my own most of the time tho.

I used to really enjoy Starbucks but they never seem to have Verona anymore.

Just had to chime in on the Timmies coffee discussion.  Here in Ontario, arguably the tastiest big chain coffee is easily McDonalds.  Tim’s is truly not very good.  And Starbucks is worse again, at higher prices.  Years ago McD’s had atrocious coffee, but they really woke up, smelled, and started to serve the good stuff!

I've never been a fan of any fast food hot coffee.. either too strong or too hot or both.

Usually breakfast is a hardboiled egg and a handfull of blueberries.. with a large Tervis Mug of Folgers cooled down to room temp with some ice if needed.

There's about 5 Tim Horton's that have opened up here in Houston Texas within the past year. They're going to have a very tough time against Shipley Donuts. Just ask Krispy Kreme and Dunkin.

I don't like coffee, and seldom eat donuts, so have never eaten at a Tim Horton's.  We have at least one in this area, but it doesn't matter to me.

I've long wondered, is there any connection between "Tim Horton's" the chain and Tim Horton the modeler who's a member here?  Or, as I've long suspected, is it just a coincidence?

As noted above, not the same.  The donut Tim Horton had a fairly lengthy career as an NHL player, at some point during that career, he and a business parter started the donut franchise, and then while he was still an active player in the NHL, he died in a car crash.  In case you're wondering how to start a successful donut chain with your name on it - there's the model that worked.

Agreed, they probably had one of the best advertising campaigns ever in their height. Associating themselves with the Canadian identity. Their ads had a small town feel to them with alot of heart.
Even those days are gone and their advertising has been pretty awful for the last decade and a half.

Personally, I always enjoyed the Air Farce parodies of their ads.

Wendy's divested itself of Tims in 2014 selling to Restaurant Brands International Inc, which is under Brazilian control, and sadly the brand has been going down hill ever since.

It was like that in Toronto, you'd be at an intersection and there's a Tim's on one corner and a gas station with a Tim's on another. I used to joke that if you built a TH in a field, the next morning there'd be a town there, but really more correctly the next morning there'd be another TH beside it.

The coffee was ok but it became terrible at some point, they changed vendors I was told, and McD's picked up their old supplier... no idea if that's actually true. Regardless, I switched to McD's for coffee. But in truth, I stopped going to TH when I got tired of them continually getting my order wrong. Used to get a double double and a bagel with cream cheese. More often than not they' toast the bagel, which I never asked for, so I started getting it toasted because it seemed the universe was telling me to go that route. Then they started to not toast it regularly. Ffs. My last TH was in Lethbridge, AB., November 9, 2018, that untoasted bagel was the last straw. Next road coffee was a McD's in Bozeman, Mt., on the same trip. Not sure if it's just here in Cedar Rapids, but McD's coffee is pretty unpalatable, so now I'm going to Scooters.

Somewhere along the way, probably 2018 or 19 I stopped putting sugar in coffee (tea as well), so now my biggest peeve is if I get one with sugar in it. Once you stop getting sugar in coffee, tasting one with is an unpleasant experience.
