How are some able to add photos to a post?

Would someone explain how some can add pics to posts? I am unable to. I have added photos to the galleries, but I do not know how to get them into a post other than posting a link.

If you want to add photos to a post that are already in your gallery.
Go to Gallery, then My Images.  Select a thumbnail so it expands.  Below it, you'll see two links.
Copy the "BB Code" link and paste that link in your post.
