Initial results from DLP printer

Fauxhammer who comes from a miniatures, but still relevant perspective, does very good reviews.  He seems to think that DLP is the future, but the small build size is holding it back.

I agree with him. As far as I am concerned, the small size is virtually the only thing that influenced me to buy my 10" SLI machine.  If I could have gotten a DLP machine with an equivalent print envelope size, I would have done that.

I also agree that Fauxhammer does excellent, unbiased reviews and attempts to find solutions to problems with what he is reviewing.  His reviews are one of the main reasons I chose my Anycubic Photon M3 Premium 8K 10" printer...and it was an excellent decision!

For those of you who are considering the Anycubic D2, there is another choice for a similar price...the Elegoo Mars 4 DLP, which has virtually the same print envelope (slightly larger on the X-Y axes, and slightly shorter on the Z axis), the same resolution...but is much better constructed, with a metal vat, a better UI, a bigger screen, a much sturdier lead screw support structure, slightly better light uniformity, an integral activated-carbon air purifier...and more.

Reviews comparing the Anycubic D2 vs the Elegoo Mars 4 DLP have them printing at virtually the same quality, but giving Elegoo the edge for build quality and price.

Last time I looked, (today) the Elegoo Mars 4 DLP was selling at Amazon for $359...but you might find a better price since I didn't take much time searching for the best deal.

Anyway, the Elegoo is definitely an alternate choice, and is a better-built machine than the Anycubic D2.

Damn that's tempting.  I've been supremely happy with my Elegoo Mars and Elegoo Saturn 8K.  They just work, even when Bryan was trying out same files on his prior printers.

This is true regarding your current printers.  I need to try the signs again on the DLP, with the DLP clear resin.  My first attempt at glass printing needs work but was a vast improvement over my previous attempts on the SLA printer.

Ah. Thanks. It's largely paying attention to exposure settings, not that it's a special resin for DLP. Looking forward to trying it.

Hi to all.   I bought an Anycubic Mono2 last fall.  I have printed a lot of structures for my n scale layout.  I print at 20 or 30um steps, and generally design to avoid using the automatic supports (burns up too much resin, and is a PITA to remove from the build plate.  I took advice from several guys and use a plastic razor blade to remove the parts from the build plate- no damage to the surface.  I find that the resolution is better than I can see by eye.  I have printed n scale ladders with fine rungs, scale fencing (diamond pattern), speaker cases, and a lot of larger stuff.  I have just started my second liter of resin, after about 50 runs....

What is a "plastic razor blade"?

Looks like a SERB, but is plastic - ABS, I think - with a honed edge. I haven't bought a pack in several years. I used to keep them for working on car engine innards where scraping leftover gasket material from a soft-metal precision-machined surface (aluminum heads, for instance) would be ill-advised with a conventional steel SERB.

Yes, they don't have durability for crap, but a sharp-ish edge that won't gouge a metal surface is good to have sometimes.
