help
« on: November 25, 2023, 08:20:07 PM »
Can anyone help with this issue?  I'm trying to add a post with a photo.  After everything is done when I go to post, it tells me "upload folder is full."  I don't even see where that folder is located.  Keep in mind, I am NOT very tech savvy.  This is the first time I've seen this message.  What do I need to do to post a pic at this point?

Thanks,
Ron

Hi, Ron -

Nothing you can do at this point. The "upload folder is full" applies to everybody, and is not a specific folder under your control. The system administrator needs to work his magic (or, truthfully, dig into his wallet) to expand the forum's storage area. You'll have to wait just like the rest of us before uploading pictures.

And a suggestion in the spirit of helping us help you - just a "help" in the title is not especially a recommended way to elicit assistance. "Help with picture uploading? Folder is full?", which is what we see in the "new topics" index, would have had several of us (more helpful than I am!) jumping in to lend a hand.

Good luck, and a belated welcome to the forum.

Don't use the attachment and other options -- add your image to the post by uploading to the gallery !!

Yes! Thank you, John! I never mess with the gallery since I have my own image storage, so as I discerned, other expertise was in order here!

That's what I ran into today when trying to upload a .stl file.

The advantage of the gallery is that, as long as Railwire is online, the photos will be available.  If you take your server offline, or change a directory name, any photos hosted there will be lost to Railwire readers.

The same goes for 3rd-party image storage sites.

If you haven't yet visited and looked through the Admin/FAQs section of the forum you might find this thread helpful: https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=42854.0
It is a bit wordy, but it shows you how to set up and use your own photo album on the Railwire.  While it might be slightly more cumbersome than just directly attaching photos to your posts, it is actually Tom's preferred way to store photos.  And you will not see the "upload folder is full." message.
