Play Desnuda 2.0 build thread

Hey everyone, Play Desnuda, like the mighty phoenix, has risen from the ashes, the first 16x72 section is now under construction. I am going to make sure that it is reliable and have basic scenery before extending* (possible small yard)

I have 10 sections of Atlas Code 80 flex (already used two) and I am currently recycling my Atlas Code 80 Customline switches, and will be using ground throws again.

Nice! Can I suggest putting some type of foam down so you can get some terrain relief?

Knowing what you're doing, half inch should work fine. Maybe even just some foamcore from the dollar store.

It's just nice to be able to easily dig some ditches.

I have also playing around with structures, and I see the need to add an S curve.

The track in front of the green structure is the key to make the runaround work, there is enough room for a diesel switcher and a pair of forty footers, or one car and a 2-8-0

John, consider these for your switches unless you are going remote operation.  You don't have to use the pneumatic machine, but it helps to throw the switch with your finger.  Just needs a pocket in your plywood.

have you thought about designing something that is looks like a switch stand? I am planning on using Bullfrogs in a while

Yes, but it would be very delicate and it would not rotate.

Tom Knapp has posted a video of the new MTB MP10 switch machine on a code 40 Nn3 turnout - doesn't look like the switch stand rotates in the video.

Link to the vendors site where the switch machines sell for around $22.61 USD

I have added more track, and pulled some buildings out. I really want this section of the branch to be more urban than the last one...

John, how does your Key 2-8-0 like the plastic frog turnouts? I have a new section I’m about done planning that I’m ready to start building. I tried Peco insulfrog turnouts back in the 80s, but my brass steamers (especially smaller ones like the 2-8-0) didn’t like them 😕

Love your concept, btw.  I grew up near some SP/UP/ex-PE branch lines and like what you’re doing here as well as the previous layout!

@cbroughton67 is the king of Key 2-8-0 fixes. He has been a miracle worker in getting the PRR variety to behave. I bet the same techniques might apply to SP ones too.

it actually runs well through the frogs without any issues, it really needs to be DCC'ed

ok, reality time...I hate this plan, I am tired of Atlas switches, and would love to scrap this 6 foot version, and build a 7-8 foot version with a longer runaround, the switches for the crossovers pointing a different direction, and re-learning soldering skills.
