David -

If you're still around, all of us are impressed with your work. We feel badly for you that apparently the honest conversations about the general state of the art were upsetting. None what was said here was intended to impugn your high-quality execution. Please come back and join the conversation, if you feel up to it.

That said, if you are now uncomfortable with pursuing the project you and I agreed to based on our conversations on the forum and in PM, I understand fully. My only request there is you return the core I sent at your earliest convenience so I can use it for the kitbash it was acquired for.

Thanks.

It was superb modeling work that @davidmbedard had posted.  It was not thin skin that upset him, I am surprised that many here brush this off as his issue.  Constructive criticism is one thing, but there was nothing constructive about how this went of the rails.

An apology would be a good first step to trying to encourage his further participation.

Scott, none of the responses in this thread stated anything negative specifically about David's work.  In fact, many were praising his work.  Then the discussion turned into general discussion comparing 3-D printing to injection molding plastic. Again, there was no criticism of David's work.  There were only 11 posts before David left. I just reread them again.  If I missed something, please point me to those remarks critical of David's excellent work.  I like to learn what I missed.

What was the off the  rails?  That we shifted to discussing the general state of 3D Resin printers?  TRW thread drifts like that all the time.  We have done that in many of your fine posts.  Such drift has nothing to do with his work.

That's how we all generally see it.  I'd to see more of his stuff, but there is zero way to guarantee it won't again create thread drift.

An apology would be a good first step to trying to encourage his further participation.

No one said a single thing that requires apology. Not one person had anything remotely negative to say about his work.

Jeez, like I said, if all we want is attaboys and zero critical discussion (other than that the hobby is dying), then Trains.com has us covered.

@Scottl , look at my second post as I can only assume that it is me he and you are referring to. It is as close to an apology as can be expected, as I did not single him out, nor his designs specifically. I don’t play games. I write open and honest commentary here, and if I felt I wronged him after his response, I would have apologized outright. He had every opportunity to respond directly to me, to point out my offense, but he chose to ignore my second post and leave.

I’ll leave this up to the mods if I am to be chastised.

Oh yeah!  That looks great!  What printer are you using?  I see absolutely NO layer lines on your print.  Just looks excellent!

Cheerio!

This quote was my comment on David's great-looking caboose, before I commented about my experience with 3D resin printing vs injection molding as a comment about 3D printing maybe being as good as injection molding in 5 years.

I am shocked!  I'd think that if my posting generated spirited conversation, that would be a good thing.

Absolutely ZERO criticism of David's work.

If I posted something and there were absolutely no comments or thread drift...then I might be a bit offended.

Sorry you're gone David, really.  I wanted to see the completion of your project, which I am assuming would have been excellent.

Hope you come back!

Cheerio!
