Piko SmartDecoder XP 5.1 Sound

Got a good issue here
Have a Piko Whitcomb 65 tonner with a Piko SmartDecoder XP 5.1 Sound no problems programing it. The problems are try to run it. Using Digitrax DSC 50 or 51 no problems. Trying to use Digitrax DSC100 or 240 it just sits on the track with the motor sound on, no movement no others sounds and not lights. The hand held throttle is a DT402r, no problems with it connect to a DSC 51.
Does any buddy have any ideas what could be going on?

I have problems with the PIKO sound decoder in a German prototype diesel.  It doesn't like my NCE Power Cab system.

From what I read here, the decoder is made by Uhlenbrock. We had a discussion about the decoder in https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=55254.msg758695#msg758695

But no fix for your problem.

Mr. Barton

You didn't say what the address was, but if you used a 2 digit address, try a 4 digit address. Or the other way around.
Just a shot in the dark.

Digitrax does not support 4-digit address for 1-127 - only 2-digit.  While I don't recall, I suspect that it would not let you program such long address either, unless you specifically wrote to CV29

Mr. Barton

Perhaps try a different, older throttle, such as a DT400.

I guess my question is why would different throttle matter since the actual DCC packets are generated by the command station, and are converted into high power DCC track signal by the booster. A throttle only communicates with the command station. No connection to the track or decoder on the track.

The 4.1 decoder is made by Uhlenbrock, but the 5.1 is a Piko own development.

Good to know - thanks  Marc.
Actually my PIKO BR221 diesel also has the XP5.1 sound decoder (and is misbehaving on NCE and Easy DCC systems).

Talk with Piko USA, they have no idea what is going on. The tech took my information on the problem and is forward it to the engineers.
If you have a problem call them.
PIKO USA #(619) 280-2800
Mon, Wed, Fri: 10AM - 4PM Pacific

Soundtrax Next 18 decoder #885029 Baldwin and other loco has a 2 engine Whitcomb Sound file loaded on the decoder

Thanks for the info Judd.  I wouldn't expect sales office in USA to have in-depth technical knowledge.  I should let them know about my problem so they can also pass that info to their engineers.
