Replacing BLI Paragon Decoders

Is there any published guidance concerning replacing troublesome BLI decoders with other brands?  Is it even possible, given the position and type of sockets/connectors that BLI uses?

Any information will be helpful.  Thanks!

Word of caution:  Unlike other decoders which have common-positive (common anode) function outputs, the BLI decoders I have looked at have common-negative (common-cathode) functions.  To use existing BLI lighting circuit boards you will have to reverse all the LEDs  on them. Just  another thing that makes those decoder a pain.
