Hard to find decent shots of the cab roof, but here's CN 5181 after rebuild to a GECX SD40-3. They didn't modify the CN features so the roof is untouched, and other than the seam where the number board box meets the cab roof, it's flush.

It actually is flush on the model.....but ive got that rain gutter thing there...makes it look lower.   Ill change the gutter to follow the outline of the numberboards....

And just like that all four variants of CN's large SD40 fleet are now a helluva lot easier to model. Happy days  :)

I’m looking forward to seeing one of these finished. Alas I don’t have a need for an SD40…… but boy if Dave does a GMD SD40-2 (BC Rail?) watch out!

I hope to end my track record of never completing anything with these SD40's... being at the point of actually starting work on a layout might provide the needed impetus.

Here are a few pictures of my CN SD40 project
From L to R- 5121 (renumbered to 5001) with Nose HL, DB, lo mt trucks
                   SF shell under construction with  Nose HL, DB removed, lo mt trucks
                   the next 3 units with DB removed ,hi mt trucks
                   the last unit will be SD40-3 GCFX "grey ghost"
                   all units except the first refitted with BLMA grabirons
