The Railsmith NP Diner arrived today…

One car at a time, it’s getting easier to model the North Coast Limited

Nice. Was hoping to see them but nothing yet, not even a shipping notification. Looking forward to the domes when they show.

Yep!  I got mine a couple of days ago.  It's nicely done.

As a matter of curiosity...is this the same prototype car that Con-cor 'sort of' modeled (backwards and too short, with coach interior) +/-50 years ago?

The only tooling he owns are the old Walthers  cars...this isn't a Con Cor cause the roof fits ;)   Centralia?

My three look fantastic!

From the website:
The RailSmith diner body styles will be unlike any other diner yet produced in N Scale, including that highly desired fluted diner version. I am sure that you will be completely satisfied with, each and every meal, and the service will be the ‘best’ and keep you coming back for more. Our hope, and goal, is that the RailSmith Diners will be like a new favorite restaurant that you will return to time and again!

I'm pretty sure he has commissioned some new tooling since he acquired the old Walthers cars.  He's certainly released some newly tooled cars since then (NP coaches and NP sleepers come to mind).  Although who owns the tooling is a different question from both who paid for it and whether it is new.

The Centralia car is a different (SP) prototype - and isn't as nicely tooled as this new diner.

I knew it wasn't a Con-cor, since it is the right way around, and has the features of the Walthers/Railsmith cars. He has some other cars that are in the works, including a 56 seat coach (unless that has already been released), which appear to be made to the same specs as the Walthers cars.  So the line does appear to be expanding beyond the original Walthers line. I assume he owns that tooling for the new coach and the diner, in addition to the original Walthers cars, and the couple cars he has "kitbashed" from the original Walthers tooling (the RPO and the pseudo 12-4 sleeper).

Good point on the ownership. Even as it applies to the old Walthers tooling. The tooling, old and new, is likely in possession of the Chinese manufacturer that produces his designs. Whether he could actually take possession of the tooling is a good question. But a number of US companies have discovered that moving tooling from China to the US is much harder than it was to move tooling from the US to China.

These cars look really nice. I’ve going to say the NCL is (present tense intentional) my second favourite all time train, after, naturally, The Canadian. If only the NCL had, just once, detoured over the Canadian Pacific…

I think I’m going to do something I don’t do very often, and that’s make some purchases outside my defined ‘home road’ and era.

Mine should be here "soon".  As far as I know, he shipped them all at the same time, and he said mine should have shipped Thursday.

The only shipping notice he usually gives is his updated delivery list, with "Shipping Now" for the current items.  In this case, the list went out a few days before the cars.  My last car came in May, was shipped the day before the email update, and arrived, in rural Kentucky, two days (49 hours!) after being accepted at the Prineville, OR post office.  So shipping times can vary considerably.

good to know, thank you.  We do a lot of his decorating but I almost never get over to that side of the building to see what is new.   As for ownership, last we worked with a Chinese factory it was clear that we owned the tooling and could have it run anywhere we wanted as long as it was in china and as far away from Hong Kong as possible  LOL   I guess it would be too easy to spirit the tooling away there than in the interior.
