First release of Exactrail 4427 hoppers too.  Might have to replace some of my old EXR cars with the heavy paint.

I really wanted to be excited about these but every UP number they chose has been repainted to the Flag and Z stripe scheme sometime in the last 4-5 years. I guess it really doesn't matter, I would have liked some 6000 series as that is the majority of the ac4400's in UP's roster.

Man, nothing said mid 2000s railfanning is boring to me like NS Dash 9s and CSX AC4400s. But now? I'm a bit nostalgic. @GonzoCRFan is gonna bust my balls for getting soft. lol

This is great news for so many of you. I'm here clapping.

Maybe I’m just out of the loop, but why are the CSX YN2 units listed as only prototypical through the early 2000’s, when there’s still a bunch with those road numbers running today?

I'm sure it's incomplete research. It's just like the UP yellow sill units being marketed as 2020+ when all the numbers they chose have been repainted to a new paint scheme in the last 5 years.

additional various roof antenna changes and PTC changed the setup on the roofs of the units.

So yes, there are still quite a few CSX YN2 AC4400's out there, but do they represent the current time frame?  no.

Enjoy!

A lot of YN2 show up on the Hanover Sub in last few years.

Sounds pretty minor and easy to update if it ever actually bugs me. Sweet, thanks!

I would have never thought I’d have a need for a unit like this, but with CSX assigning these big units to locals that warrant it (Abbeville sub Abbeville-Elberton turn and their Greenville SC switcher) I can absolutely have an excuse for one of these doing local switching, ironically.

Edit: turns out I’ve got a shot of the #169 on the Abbeville-Elberton turn from my time at my last employer; I’ve got a shot of the roof as well since I was up in the lab conference room in the tower too!

And 113 doing the same thing on a different CSX local in a separate part of SC, so looks like that’ll be my preorder unit.

There might be something with the yellow frame stripe too. Like, they don't have the scotchlite tape and are just yellow paint.

Yeah, I think you’re right. I’m sure there’ll be a few other things to update as well but overall it looks like the base would be good to start from
