There was a post on one of my RR-related FB groups I follow that said the owner passed away two months ago and that there was no money to continue paying for hosting, domain services, etc.   FWIW.

@Ed Kapuscinski let us know what you find.  I'm willing to be involved in any rescue attempt.   I may have a contact in the domain registration realm that might help, although honestly the domain name isn't the primary issue.   I can also see if I can find that post I saw to see if we can, respectfully, find a path back to the owner's estate.

Please do.

The biggest issue, I think, is getting the "guts". I'm SURE it wasn't cheap to host due to the storage, but I'd love to know what it'd look like.

Working fine for me at 0206 EDT.

As many here know, I have an old browser, on an old system, and sometimes that makes a difference.  rrpicturearchives.net is still http, not https.  I wonder if some newer browsers are redirecting people to the https version, which doesn't exist, so it goes to a 3rd-party page?

And we have a winner! I found Tim Huemmer's page on LinkedIn, and his "personal website" link went straight to his trains site. HTTP. What's strange is that sometimes the HTTPS link will correctly redirect... sometimes. I fixed the link in my post above.

As to the reports that he passed two months ago, it's highly, highly doubtful. Tim is relatively young (46), so if that was the case, it would be tragic.

Glad it worked!  It was just a guess, based on past experiences, and comments read here.

Just like the real railroads, new technology (modern OS and browser) is often useful, and sometimes required, but on occasion, the old stuff is still better.

(What gets me isn't the sites that won't work on my browser, but the sites programmed to block me from even trying to access them.  Since many are businesses, it seems like an odd way to gain customers.)

I have one site that won't work on my main computer with a 6-year-old OS regardless of browser. I have to use my newer, current-OS laptop for this one company. There's another, a brokerage, that barfs on my version of Firefox, but will work on Opera with an "update your browser" warning page. That particular site has been an annoyance for years, and I'm one frustrated click away from finding another broker for that particular retirement account.

Blame it on all the EdK's of the world trying to protect us from ourselves. Right, Ed?  ;)

Seems to be working alright for me right now. I always liked rrpicturearchives.net more than railpictures.net because rrpicturearchives has pictures of rolling stock as well as engines.

Yep. Happy to take the blame on that one.

The internet is still the wild west, and you don't want to go poking around without "protection".
