Ugh. They used the same wrong B&O typography they used on the OCS.

Someone needs to tell the CSX paint shop to not rely on Windows Fonts for their stuff.

At first I found the fade to a normal CSX paint scheme at the front a bit revolting, but the more I look at it the more I kind of like it.  It's different and unique, and a kind of interesting way to reveal the railroad's heritage.  There are rumors of more heritage schemes coming.  I hope they at least do a Chessie one like this.  It's a convenient way to get around the awkward fact that many very nice paint schemes from the past (like Chessie) just won't look good on a flat, angular GE nose.

But that font on the other hand...

The Internet told me I’m supposed to hate this for reasons that are not fully clear to me.

It doesn’t have a firebox, so I already hate it.

Railfans are the worst.

I think it looks good.

A nice "blend in" from past to now on this scheme.
A "western modeler" that also runs NS.

Also reading it wasn't fully finished and was released for some event.  Afterwards, it will be sent back and painted into full B&O paint  :?

Seriously ?

No insult intended to B&O fans, or anyone else, but how many people really know what letter style B&O used?  How many care?  I suspect a greater number will be please to see a modern locomotive dressed up like one from a railroad they have  only heard about from their grandfather.

And, if the B&O was still independent, who says they'd use the same lettering style they did 50 years ago?

The issue isn't the source of the font, just that the typography looks off. Like, the letter spacing is wrong and it just looks like someone designed it in Powerpoint.

Taken from the Penn Central Transportation Company FB page :

Foamers: Why doesn't CSX make a heritage unit? Why doesn't CSX make a heritage unit? Why doesn't CSX make a heritage unit?

*CSX does a heritage unit to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the B&O*

Foamers: Boo. Not like that though.
