I had to resort to actual modeling, instead of just talking about it.

Peteski is alive and well, and didn't even miss TRW.  I spend Saturday and Sunday at the Greeneberg model train and toy show and had a blast at out Northeast NTRAK layout we displayed there.  ...

I'm so relieved.   :)

I missed you all. This place is one of the few positives remaining after the year and 1/2 my model railroading has been through thanks to smoke and water damage from my neighbors massive fire. Still fighting insurance nightmares to get rebuilding going.

Keep on modeling for those of us in the armchair right now.

I'll admit - I went through a little withdrawal this week during the short outages - but some perspective is in order.  I created my user account on 4 September 2004 using the phpBB Forum software and went live with The Railwire .. on 12 September 2004, the Internet Wayback Machine crawled our site the first time and took snapshot #1 - below is a copy of that first capture ..

As of 07:00 3/8/2023 It has been 6779 days since September 4, 2004 That's approximately 222.77 months or 18.56 years.   There are some other forums out there that have been online longer, but they have all had outages over time. We've had our share of technical glitches and outages over the years - if you look hard enough you can find the dates ... but by and large this software has been pretty reliable.  I turned over the forum to Tom some time back (probably 8 years ago - I don't remember) and he's done a fantastic job keeping it going, including covering all the expenses associated with it, as did I during my time.

Things have slowed down some here over the last couple of years with the proliferation of other venues - such as Facebook groups, mailing lists, reddit, youtube, tik tok, etc .. but by and large there is a good group of users here that contribute to the hobby.  Let's hope we can continue it for a few more.

You launched a little more than a month before my first son was born and he will be graduating high school in a few months. There is a little more perspective,  just don’t ask me which has had fewer glitches!  😂

I never complained about any of the very infrequent (and usually short duration) TRW outages, and I'm doing my best to keep the volume of the traffic up.  :D

Pete - I didn't post that because of complaints - I just thought it would be a good time to put it into perspective - The forum is kind of like an appliance that we rely on .. we just expect it to work :)

I know John. I just badly phrased my post.  I doubt that any member would complain about poor availability of TRW.
And the historical info clearly shows (like the old Virginia Slims cigarette ads stated).

I blame it on PSR.

"Peteski Stumped Railwire." :D

I know, it's not at all the case, but it could open new rabbit holes in the conversation using "PSR."

It is too bad there isn’t an easy and practical way to send out an email blast with updates when things are down. I always just assume I have been banned so hard I can’t even find the website. 😂

I don't know, you'd have to do something like decide to model a genocide and then proceed to be a dick about everything to get the banhammer.

I had happily forgotten about that misadventure!  Lol. That was a very effective way to get the permanent boot!
