What was the outage
« on: March 26, 2023, 08:02:28 PM »
I've been having TRW withdrawls all day today. I'm glad I can get my fix now that the website is fixed.

Not enough memory allocated to a newer version of PHP I switched over to. I had to get the provider involved.

Thank you for sticking with it, Tom. As a former multi-server admin I appreciate the efforts.

Thanks Tom, there's a reason we call you the man. You've had an incredibly influence to model railroading with keeping the forum running.

I had to resort to actual modeling, instead of just talking about it.

easy fix, create either a .user.ini file or a php.ini and type in just the command...

memory_limit = 512M

We could probably blame Pete for this, his post count alone is enough to warrant more memory.

Same, I felt lost. The other types of social media just don't have that quality filter you naturally find here.

DFF:  I know you're joking, but, yes, I did email Peteski, as he was the only one I had an actual email for.

He said it was down for him, so I quit wondering if it was my computer.

Peteski is alive and well, and didn't even miss TRW.  I spend Saturday and Sunday at the Greeneberg model train and toy show and had a blast at out Northeast NTRAK layout we displayed there.  I helped with the setup and teardown, cleaned the track and equalized gaps at the connecting track, Set up a track-view camera  and monitor, ran few trains using my Smart Phone WiFi throttle, fixed couple of locos, assisted in a decoder install, chewed the fat with my my club friends and spectators (including running into couple of guys from my model car club).  Oodles of off-line fun.

I wonder if the short outages last Thursday and Friday were related to this problem?  The ones with error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ''a:680:{s:10:"smfVersion";s:3:' (T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE) in
/home/therailw/public_html/forum/cache/data_654596376f4b224fc3e4debf27b224f1-SMF-modSettings.php on line 1
. . . 42 . . .

That is the error I saw Friday morning, just after midnight.  The site was up about noon (EDT) on Friday, and then apparently down until Sunday evening.

The site itself was never actually down, at least on my system.  No error messages, but the page returned was blank - no source code at all.  Weird.

I have to say I missed being able to jump on and see what is going on with the rest the group. This is my main source of model train club type interaction. I went over to trainboard and just not the same. I am glad to have the site back up and running.
