Here are some photos of my small caboose fleet.  The D&RGW had some unique cabooses.  There aren't any ready to run offerings at this point.  The wood cabooses were from a run from MDC - Roundhouse available 20 years ago.  The prototype is actually very similar to D&RGW's wooden cabooses.  I modified a couple to better depict what they look like modernized and added Micro-Trains caboose ends.  These had the old pre-flying Grande herald.  I removed it and added decals for the newer herald.  The touch up paint color is a bit off.  These were build nearly 20 years ago.  My modeling skills have since progressed a bit, so go easy on me! My first steel caboose was built following an article from Mike Danneman in MRR.  I sanded off the details on the sides of an old Atlas cupola caboose and added my own styrene sides with windows cut in the correct place and added Micro-Trains caboose ends and stack.  Lastly, Pat at Trainworx is a D&RGW fan.  Back in 2006 he offered a photo etched kit that used the Atlas cupola caboose as a core.  These were rather finicky to build, but the results are worth the effort.  They build into an accurate version of the D&RGW welded side cabooses.  I have 2 of these.  Pat had designed the etched sheet for the similar riveted side cabooses, but with all the window variants, the sheet was huge/expensive, so he never proceeded with production.  My plan was to get 2 of those and retire my Atlas kitbash.  Pat has also teased a RTR injection molded version of the riveted side caboose.  But, as of yet, no plans on release.  All the cabooses have Fox Valley Models metal wheels with MT restraining springs to induce drag and eliminate the slinky effect.  They also all have MT Z scale couplers.  I've included some build photos.  Forgive the small size, these were taken 17 to 20 years ago.  At any rate, when viewed on the layout these offer an interesting end to my freight trains.

Cool.  Pat sent me a PDF of the artwork for the welded side cabooses that he sold the etched set for, as well as the the artwork for the riveted side cabooses.  That would have been a cool kit.  The window openings are square and there were 3 window options, single pane square, 4 pane square, and sealed single pane with rounded corners (like the welded side kit).

Nearly finished the first set of foreign power that will roam the Maybrook interchange yard, a pair of NYO&W F3A units (InterMountain).  "Nearly" finished because I forgot to add windshield wipers.  But the lead unit has been renumbered, Digitrax decoders installed and MTL True Scale couplers added to the B-ends to narrow the coupling gap. 

The NYO&W caboose is still a work in progress.  The floor/underframe is complete but the body still needs some design work.  I'm waiting for some caboose lanterns from Model Train Technology.  MTT has a fiber optic lighting kit that includes the lanterns, but they also sell the lanterns separately.  The lanterns will accommodate 0201 LEDs, which I prefer over FO cable, and I'll wire them for direct current pickup from the track with a cap and proper resistance.

I finally got around to documenting my N scale speaker design project that has been evolving over the last six weeks.

This has involved 3D printing a variety of speaker enclosures, and testing a bunch of different combinations of speakers in different orientations and configurations.
