Latest Version Bachmann Amfleet I cars now out.

The  advertisement on the back of the latest issue of Model Railroader is for Budd Amfleet I cars in N Scale. Improvements or upgrades appear to be finished lighted interiors, lighted red markers, blackened metal wheels with RP25 contours, body mounted magnetically EZ MATE Couplers. Two coaches, a cafe' car, and a business class car are available. The paint scheme is Phase VI. I have no need for these (no layout anymore) , but thought I would pass along the information.        Nate Goodman. (Nato). Salt Lake, Utah.

This is, I think, Bachmann's third attempt at these cars.  The second attempt looked pretty good, but had mechanical issues.  The less said about the first batch the better.

I wonder if this batch will roll?

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

I highly doubt it. If Kato and Rapido Trains couldnt' figure out free rolling N scale internal baring trucks, Bachmann sure won't do better.  Kato is still the best one for rolling (after removing the lubricating grease). But that won't do any favors for the truck's longevity.

Hey, that''s almost as pricey as the MTL's small jewel boxes!  :D

But no EOT marker lights, and no anti-flicker capacitors.   :D

Just to clarify things, I'm a Kato fanboy.  Just having some fun here.

I used to own a bunch of Bachmann Amfleet cars. Then once Kato announced theirs, I sold them all right away.
The other issue with the Bachmann Amfleets is that their wheels are oversized and their ride height is ridiculously high (partly due to the aforementioned oversized wheels).

I am convinced that their new SC-44 is actually an excellent N scale locomotive by all accounts. But their rolling stock is still trash.
