Cutting a hole in the wall to run two tracks into the other room and what do I find.  I mis-located the stud on my plan.

If it's any help (not for this boo-boo, obviously), I gave up long ago on relying on outside measuring to determine stud locations, and instead use an electronic stud finder. When it's somebody else's construction, it was finally drilled (ha!) into my thick head that builders are of varying quality, and 16" is sometimes a suggestion and not necessarily an absolute. Caveat emptor!

The really sad things are:
1- I helped build that 10' wall 7 studs 16" on center and 1 stud at 8". I thought the 8" was at the other end of the wall (that hole comes later in construction .
2- I do own a stud finder, but I knew  where the stud was.

I may revise the plan and move the staging yard lead 2" to the left, and leave the stud alone.

Well the stud has been cut away, and the liner installed.
I am now ready to bring the sub-roadbed, roadbed and track up to and through the hole in the wall.

Three steps forward - two back.   What adventures await on the other side of the wall?

I did that in 2004 on my last HO layout and my wife had a fit, from the layout to a closet.
