ESU Price increase

Just a heads up.  There has been no formal announcement from ESU but it appears the MRSP/Retail prices of most decoders have gone up by around $10.  If you need any and can find them in stock at your favorite ESU dealer, then you might want to get some before prices go up.  The place I usually shop (Streamlined Backshops) has already re-priced their ESU stock.  The discount price for most LS 5 decoders have gone up around $7 there.  Looks like Yankee Dabbler has not increased yet.  I haven't checked any others.  Apparently the new ESU USA boss verified at Amherst last weekend that there is a general price increase coming.  The price increase covers other items from ESU besides decoders.

Yeah, me too.  I was waiting for the Kato wide body and a restock of the Nano to come in.  Late in December Matt Herman had said they expected stock at ESU at the end of January.  Now mid-Feb and no sign yet.  :|

So, how is it that decoders that were already in stock somewhere for X price now suddenly cost more?

Well, gas stations jack up the price while their tanks are still full of the old-price gas. Capitalism.

It’s all about replacement cost.
Why sell what you have on hand at a heavy discount to what your new cost is?

This. People don't understand that if they sell you the current stock at the old price, they have less money to buy the new ones at the current price.

What I do understand is now I have less money to buy new ones at the current price.

That's true, but you make it back when you start selling the new stock at the new price.  You bought that old stock at the old price.  So selling it at the old price keeps your profit the same on each item.  And when you buy new stock at the new price, then you sell it at the new price then you make the same profit you used to make. The increase in the cost of the new stock is covered by your new increased selling price.  There is a period when you have a little less because you're buying new stock on the old stock's profits but it all evens out when the old stock is gone and you are selling only new stock.

Not that this really matters to me because the items I wanted either were sold out so there was no old stock or are new and never before available so again, no old stock.

I hesitated too long and didn't pull the trigger on an order from YD, now they show the increased pricing as well.

This is it for me on ESU decoders (and I was one of their biggest fans). Not going to play along. a $10 increase is ridiculous.
