N Detailing parts

Being somewhat new, I don't know many of the manufactures of N scale detailing parts and decals.
Is there a list?

I want to detail pretty much everything that runs on rails over time. 

What I have found is:
BLMA that Atlas now own, but don't appear to have any stock. 
Gold Medal Models are now owned by Squadron but cannot see if any n scale parts are still produced.
Are there others, and what stores are likely to have parts, was there ever such a thing as specific locomotive detailing packs?

Microscale does decals in N.  Many of them are the same as HO, just replace the '87' attue stat of the product number with a '60'.   There are others.

Search around for BLMA parts on ebay or online stores, there's still stock in places.

Gold Medal Models see here.  Hope someone keeps producing that line but we'll see. 

Miniatures by Eric has a bunch of detail parts
For lighting stuff there is Ngineering and afaik Richmond Controls is still in business.

Detail Associates had a few N scale parts but at this point what you find may be old stock.
Sunrise had great stuff but is gone so anything you can find is lucky.

Be more specific about what kind prototypes you'd like to detail and people may have more specific suggestions.

A lot of the detail parts I use are "spare parts" produced by one or another manufacturer for their own models.  Micro-trains offers a variety of parts packaged for sale, and their customer service will generally help with parts that aren't packaged if they have them available.  Atlas, Bachmann, Kato and others offer spares on their websites.  These can provide the correct boxcar door, or brake wheel or loco bell and lots of other parts.

On decals, in addition to the sources noted by nickelplate759, consider contacting the historical society for the road(s) you are modeling.  Many sell decals for their road and/or have members who organize short runs of custom decals.

And don't forget Precision Scale Company here: https://www.precisionscaleco.com/ which don't have a lot of N-scale parts, but what they have are excellent.  Some are available in brass and plastic such as their brake systems and their brake hoses.

There are so many variations of locomotives that even on the same model, from the same railroad, specific units will have unique details and that will even vary depending on the time period you model.

What I would do is research a specific locomotive and then choose parts for that specific model.

As far as discovering what parts work and where to get them… well odds are if it’s a well know railroad then someone has done it, or something close, before. Join some Facebook or https://groups.io/groups dedicated to your railroad and ask there. Someone may be able to share a list of what they used. Or post it on here. Lots of helpful skilled people here.
