Walthers Split Level House

I am not sure when the N scale version of the Walthers split level house was announced, but the house is now on Walthers web site as an Advanced Reservation.  https://www.walthers.com/split-level-house-kit-933-3840

I remember there was a lot of interest in a N scale version back when the HO scale version was announced/displayed.

That looks a lot like the Brady house.

Sure does. It looks attractive. And it looks nothing like the ugly splits peppered all over the neighborhoods in my area of the country.

I remember when Walthers released the HO version of this kit, as I was amazed at how close it matched the house we owned before our current one.  There are some slight differences in the window arrangements, and ours was a two car garage, but otherwise, it is identical.  I wonder how many of this floorplan exist in the US?  It is a popular house plan in the suburbs of Denver/Boulder...

I live just a few miles from the prototype Brady Bunch house in Studio City, CA (which is actually a single-story). The model has more windows in the split section and an attached garage. But both are definitely from the same Postwar suburban America design period.

"We need to shoot a product photo of a modern lumber transload, quick, put in some 50's equipment". lol.

That said, that's good stuff that's generic and usable in a number of ways.

Here's ours. It's a frankenhouse that started similar to the Walthers model (with the garage located differently) and that's been added onto twice.

Those are very attractive splits.

In the New England area most splits look like this one. Actually the one in this photo is rather nice. Most are much plainer looking. Many have no garage.

That's a split entry Pete. The Wather's is a split level. Basically the split entry has two floors with the door that opens to a staircase that goes up or down. The split level homes usually has the living space (kitchen, living room, garage, dining room) as a mid level and the bedrooms were upper and lower floors. Split level's can be nice homes, but I could never understand the reasoning behind a split entry.

Here's ours that we sold in 2021 (in the family since 1965) -

https://www.google.com/maps/place/6625+Vincent+Ave+S,+Minneapolis,+MN+55423/@44.8825816,-93.3162481,3a,40.7y,86.82h,96.82t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUUbENslO0O-87zl-iUl59Q!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!4m5!3m4!1s0x87f626992607f9a7:0x9bdade3f8d60d749!8m2!3d44.8826243!4d-93.3158755

As we found out, there is a lot of resistance out there for splits these days because people can't wrap their heads around having three flights of stairs in a house (even if they're all short flights).

Thanks for the education Jbub!  In that case I don't recall seeing any split level houses in this part of the country.  I agree that split entry houses make no sense, but there are so many around here that they must make sense to someone.   :|

EDIT:  I was thinking about this some more and we here just call those split entry houses so popular in this part of the country a "split".  I didn't were multiple types of "splits".

I get it. Being a current owner who was attracted to the "weirdness" of our house (care of the giant addition on the back), splits can definitely be weird. Our living room, for example, is really big. But it's also a huge pain when it comes to layout. For example, because our living room is also a hallway and atrium, we had to get a very weirdly shaped couch.
