Are you guys gonna be in Amherst for the show?
If people are willing to state which models they’ve installed our wheels on, we’ll comprise a list of compatible models for each of our four wheelsets and post it on the website for reference.
I tried several METAL wheelsets, all listed as .540" axle, in the Panamint (Shapeways supplier of distinctive trucks) trucks, but they didn't roll very well. The ESM wheels rolled beautifully. E3, You beat me to the post!
The tool David just mentioned in https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=55298.msg760757#msg760757 sounds like it might work even better.
Spreading the frame on printed trucks is the scary part so trying to get that tool in scares me a bit. This is why I have been adding vertical tapered insertion grooves into the backside of the journal to reduce the amount of spread one has to do, in fact if you get one axle into the pocket on one side. the point just rides up the groove and spreads the frame until it snaps into the pocket, but i always use the spherical cutter to clean out both pockets first.IMHO the spherical pocket provides less rolling resistance to the cone pocket due to the fact that the axle has a single point contact on a spherical surface at the axle point rather than a line contact inside a cone (especially if the conical included angle of the axle is the same as the pocket).
I tried these wheels on my rapido canadian cars and the derailments ended up being a lot worse
