If people are willing to state which models they’ve installed our wheels on, we’ll comprise a list of compatible models for each of our four wheelsets and post it on the website for reference.

Fun fact: my dad has found them PERFECT for the Panamint models 5' wheelbase arch bars.

I tried several METAL wheelsets, all listed as .540" axle, in the Panamint (Shapeways supplier of distinctive trucks) trucks, but they didn't roll very well.  The ESM wheels rolled beautifully.

E3, You beat me to the post!

E2 and E3-

For printed trucks (Shapeways or otherwise), buy a set of these burrs. two or three twists in each journal pocket will clear out any printer artifacts and leave a perfectly smooth surface inside for the axle points to make contact.  You will be surprised at the difference.  They are handy for other things too though.

I like to put a shrink wrap on the shank for better grip control.

The tool David just mentioned in https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=55298.msg760757#msg760757 sounds like it might work even better.

Spreading the frame on printed trucks is the scary part so trying to get that tool in scares me a bit.

This is why I have been adding vertical tapered insertion grooves into the backside of the journal to reduce the amount of spread one has to do, in fact if you get one axle into the pocket on one side. the point just rides up the groove and spreads the frame until it snaps into the pocket, but i always use the spherical cutter to clean out both pockets first.

IMHO the spherical pocket provides less rolling resistance to the cone pocket due to the fact that the axle has a single point contact on a spherical surface at the axle point rather than a line contact inside a cone (especially if the conical included angle of the axle is the same as the pocket).

Yes, the fragility of the 3D resin can be worrisome.  As for the vertical groves, that is often done in injection molded wheel bearings (especially in the European models).

As for the amount of friction, you do have a point (yes pun-intended), but I suspect that with not very precise tolerances, the cone and point  are not exactly made with the same angle.  Thius also assumes that the cone and axle point are made using the same angle - they might not be. The pointy axle might also likely wear a depression in a spherical shaped bearing more readily than in a cone shaped bearing.  However, that is likely not a big concern unless the models are exposed to prolonged running (like a store-front layout where they run 7x24-365).

My dad has shredded a number of Panamint archbars trying different wheels in them. It's a bummer.

We’re blowing through the latest shipment of .33”/.540” wheels, to the point where we may have to import a batch ahead of the mill gondola shipment. Five dozen wheels will fit in the current blister pack, so we’re going to get quotes on 60-packs for the one wheel/axle style. Still need to determine how many should be made initially.

I could use another 240 pieces without even taking inventory.

Bought a bunch of wheels last week. I'm nowhere near the point that I have to figure out how many more I need in each size. There's still plenty of plastic to get rid of. Packs of 60 would be great.

I tried these wheels on my rapido canadian cars and the derailments ended up being a lot worse

Please don’t conflate your track issues as a product problem. You’ve already stated on another thread that the trackwork of the modular layout you ran the cars on was flawed. Don’t misrepresent your previous postings on this thread.

Since I always buy my wheels from NSS in their bulk packs, 60-packs would be great for me.  I like the idea of not filling my trashcan with empty packaging!
