First attempt at the Shaw's Cove water bed.  Sharpie marks need to be primed out and then a respray of the Vallejo colors.

Also printed Virginian body shells to see if I can push out a pair of NH EF4 Bricks in time for the NSE model contest in June.

I finished the under body details on my 3D printed N scale D&RGW "Fowler Clone" single sheathed boxcar.  I referenced plans I have in a couple old Mainline Modeler magazines.  This car was unusual in that the air reservoir and triple valve are next to each other, rather than across from one other.  As I posted last week, the air reservoir, brake cylinder, and triple valve are all scratch built out of styrene.  I used .006" brass wire for the 4 pipes from the triple valve to the air reservoir, the brake cylinder, and the main air line.  I used .008" brass wire for the 5 brake rods.  The main air line pipe is .010" brass wire.  The brake levers, and brake lever holders are scratch built out of styrene.  It would have been more prototypic to make the brake lever holders out of brass wire, but I figured something beefier was needed on a car that will actually be used on the layout.

And a photo of the under body details that came with the boxcar.

I am attempting to make a Walthers Northern Light & Power look a little less like a Walthers Northern Light & Power kit.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

It will be switched by a Piko Whitcomb 65 Tonner.

Here’s a photo I ran across that shows a prototype power plant in Milwaukee that the aforementioned Walthers kit is likely based on.

For my little section of layout to go inside the wall, only two jobs remained.  The first was to do a little bit of painting on the roof and walls to suggest a distant sky:

and the second was to connect the feeder wires to a new section of track bus wires which will pass trough the wall underneath.  I added a similar section for the auxiliary bus, which did not require electrical connections but needed to be secured:

It was then time to install the two sections for the Fort St. John Subdivision extension and make the requisite track and wiring connections.  This is the view from the layout room side with the tracks above and the wiring connections below:

and this is the view from the bedroom side, with the wiring brought through the wall below the tracks:

I also managed to complete most of the decal work for five new woodchip cars:

and installed the interior bracing and gussets:

Just the air hoses and a few remaining decals to go, and these cars will be ready for final weathering.

After some tweaking to get the Kato window glass to fit properly I spent some time getting the GP60I ready for paint by getting all typical detail parts installed. While Conrail locomotives usually didn't have sunshades I added them to this model to as a representation of NS adding them at one point.

While I was at it I went to work detailing my next GP60B as well. Nothing special was done to this model, just the typical detail parts.

I'm looking forward to seeing how these look in CR blue.

Modest beginnings on my new layout.  It feels great after a two-year gap.

Working on some cars that I had laying around to go with my Rock Island E8's that I completed last week.

The baggage and coach are old JnJ resin shells that were in pretty rough shape. I got them cleaned up and straightened as best as I could and went to work.

Krylon Dull Aluminum Paint. Decals by Microscale and K4 Supply. Micro Trains trucks with body mounted 1015 couplers. Eastern Seaboard Models 36" metal wheels.

The diner is a Con-Cor model that I repainted and decaled. Added Micro Trains trucks and 36" metal wheels as well.

The express box is stock with 36" metal wheels and a weathering job.

The 10-6 sleeper is by Walthers.

Pretty nice looking train that is probably no where near prototypical (I couldn't find what the prorotypes were for the JnJ shells and I'm pretty sure the diner is a Cal Zephyr prototype).

I'll be adding a couple more coaches and express cars to make the train just a bit longer.

Is something afoot?  A change of hands?

Nicely done!

The coach selection is serendipitous. That particular JnJ coach shell was cast from the Rivarossi models sold by Atlas and later Con-cor.  The Rivarossi car is modeled on a Rock Island prototype, built by ACF, which was aluminum clad.  The coach shell you worked on came out so well it looks like an original Rivarossi. No idea about that JnJ baggage shell.  Some of their products had specific prototypes and others were generic.  But it looks good, whichever it is.

Excellent - everyone gets lucky now and then I guess.....  :)

I just got another JnJ coach shell in the mail this afternoon.  I plan on cutting the center skirting off this one before I paint and decal it.  My plan is to do that tomorrow.

Thank you for the information Tom.

If you want, the Kato pre-war Budd diner (early 4 car corrugated sets) is very close to Rock Island. I think @Wutter did that car.

I have one of Lowell Smith's Rock Island diners on pre-order, so this one is just a stand-in until that one gets produced.
