Im looking at laptops solely for 3d rendering while im stuck in a hotel.
Heres what im looking at..... my nerding isnt up to snuff on all of this. Ive never been a gamer or anything so what yalls thoughts on these units for 3d modeling?

Okay, just making sure.  Rendering is generally the process of turning 3D scenes or characters into a 2D image like for animated movies and such. 

What program do you think you'll use for modeling?  Usually you can get the graphic card requirements.

That should be more than enough.  These days, it's mostly about the graphics card.  Most of the models we make have a fraction of the triangles higher end cards can push.

That’ll be a nice laptop but half the stuff I do is done on the road on a two year old Microsoft Surface… Fusion doesn’t always like the touch screen interface but beyond that it seems to work ok. Both of the rail cars I’ve designed and printed were principally done on the Surface.

same here. i model my little railroad while on the road working on the real one. thats why im starting this up. i have over 6months of the year sitting in a hotel to draw.

I remember back in the days I was consulting.  I was gone 50 weeks out of the year.  Did it for 4 years.  Got 800,000 Hilton points.  Took the family to Hawaii for 9 days for free and still had 500k points left.

I would never do it again.  It's blood money.  Missed so many family events and birthdays.
