One of the rare times Emma Peel needed to be rescued.

Finished assembly of the stringers and rails for the Shaw’s Cove swing bridge.

I took another picture.

Arnold Pacific circa 1969 on the DKS built Newport and Rock Falls.
The layout is in front of the window in my office, and the low sun angle this time of year hits it just right.

As for Mrs. Peel, I credit her with confirming my gender identity beyond the shadow of a doubt.  8)

@Lemosteam 's balloon roofs really make these cars.

They're modeled after there ones on the Valpo Dummy out in Chicago.

Here’s the new TR2 set I’m building.
The A unit is a factory painted Broadway Limited that I renumbered. The stock Paragon 4 decoder was replaced with a LokSound Nano and an ISE powerkeeper. It runs nicely.
The B unit is a custom painted out of production Skytop Models resin casting. I shortened the radiator then added wire grabs and a Shapeways single beam headlight. It rides on a heavily modified LifeLike chassis. I’m waiting for some parts in the mail but it will have a 7x16 coreless motor with homemade flywheels, a LokSound Nano decoder, an ISE powerkeeper and an 8x12 Soberton speaker in the fuel tank. There are still details to add but I’m happy with how it’s coming along.

Really nice job Jim.

You and Mike are making it hard not to push the kids out of the house so I can finally get back to modeling something.

Get back to the bench Jason!

In the SSW Morning Star thread this week, documented a method for relettering factory models by scraping off the pad printing.

Excellent, and this needs a passenger train thread.  I went to Valpo.

Work has been progressing on the modules in my basement and very soon I’ll have an operational main line around my basement room for the first time… well… ever.

So I have been inspired to FINALLY finish a whole bunch of freight car kits that have been sitting in boxes for a long time. Up to 20 years in the case of the cabooses. I painted them in batches so they were all sitting ready for trucks and couplers.

Two Briggs Models 50ft double door box cars:

Seven Kaslo Shops 50ft combination door box cars.

Two Kaslo Shops 53’ bulkheads

Four Briggs Models 66’ bulkheads

Ten Briggs Models TOFC cars (still have four to go)

And four Kaslo Shops BCR cabooses. The cabooses are just loosely assembled hence the crooked roofs. They still need the handrails applied, and lighting/decoders, but that will be after I finish road testing them.

Next up is eight Kaslo Shops skeleton log cars and a dozen CS Models wood chip cars.

Craig.

I was hoping to at least be able to show the truck modifications I am going to make to convert a pair of MT Roller Bearing trucks into Vulcan friction bearing trucks . . . but the delivery of said trucks has been delayed.  At any rate, here are a couple of photos of what I'll be building once the 3d printed car arrives from Shapeways in a couple of weeks.  It's a D&RGW "Fowler clone" single sheathed boxcar.

Aside from the car kit itself and trucks, I think I have everything I'll need.  These 2 photo etched frets are left overs I've had for years from ResinMasters D&RGW Nn3 boxcar kits.  They contain etched 15" and 18" grab irons, stirrups, and brake wheels that will come in handy.  Fox Valley Models 33" metal wheelsets.  Micro Trains Z scale couplers.  BLMA air hoses.  And an extra etched fret that has strips of thin brass that may be useful if I decide to make my own stirrup steps.  Anything else I can scratch build from a variety of sizes of wire and styrene.

Nice work, Craig - a productive week!

After experimenting with painting track and arriving at a look I am happy with, my attention this week turned to methods for a scenic base.  The section of layout to sit inside the wall requires a small area of scenery on either side of the track, so I applied a skim coat of plaster using drywall compound as that is what I had on hand:

I then applied a wash of Mars Black acrylic paint to highlight the texture in the plaster:

This was followed with washes of Burnt and Raw Sienna, Burnt and Raw Umber, and Yellow Ochre:

I am also partway through applying decals to six NSC 52'-6" gondolas:
