Passenger Trains Index

Maybe it's time for a passenger train index thread.

One of the great things that RailSmith does is share the information on how to build a train.  It's easy to buy freight cars.  It's harder to put together a believable passenger train.  I also love Fred Klein's site, for his efforts to document prototypes for N scale models and to show full consist information to make believable trains.

   RailSmith Build-A-Trains: https://lowellsmith.net/railsmith/
   Fred Klein's Epic Site:  http://www.trainweb.org/fredatsf/

And here on Railwire, there's been lots of examples too.  I started to scour my bookmarks.  I'll add to this as time goes on.

The only problem with Fred's site is that he doesn't seem to have updated it recently, or at least the model pages don't have some of the newer manufacturers.

It's true the passenger car portion of Fred's site doesn't include the newest models, but he has another section on passenger trains where he shows how he has approximated quite a few famous trains.  Neat stuff!

I think this link index is a good idea, because the original posts are spread on different boards.
So yeah.

The Canadian Southern site has some great resources for New York Central consists.

Specifically (for train makeups):

That pdf file is quite interesting. I never heard about a Newspaper car and searched a bit but found nothing. Is it looking different than eg. a baggage car?

I would assume its a baggage or express box (maybe RPO/Baggage?) assigned to newspaper service.

Santa Fe used to occasionally use express reefers for magazine or newspaper service- especially during harvest seasons when lots of produce was moving west to east, and they didn't want the reefers to return to the west empty.

The PRR had dedicated cars for newspaper traffic, usually X29s or R50bs. A lot of that service came via the Wilkes Barre gateway at Buttonwood with some days up to 5 cars assigned.

No trying to promote subject change, but is there any kind of a list of regional or national newspapers of the day that would have traveled in those cars?

I would assume New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angles Times, but I'm sure there are others in the day.

One of the PRR cars was just for Life Magazine, circa 1952 from Stegmaier's book.

Vote here to turn this thread into a pinned thread. Anybody second?

Although not prototype, my Polar Express could go here too.
