Just received an Email this morning from Railsmith / Lowell Smith announcing Fluted Side Diners on various road names, some matching his name trains like "The Texas Special" and in other roads like Rock Island. These should be very nice. Nate Goodman. (Nato).

The diner is a nice looking car.  Info I can find on the Texas Special cars are that there was 1 each Frisco and MKT.  The MKT car went to SP&S in 1965, and the Frisco sold theirs to GN in 1966- so also prototypical for those roads in later years.

Beyond that, it is a "pretty close" stand in for several other roads. Whether it is "close enough" is a personal decision, of course. At least it is visually different from the Kato Super Chief diner to provide some variety.  And we can assume Lowell will do his usual excellent paint and lettering job.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

In that case, just put my order in.

Btw, the prototype car for the RI's Golden Banquet was in existence up until they scrapped it back around 2011ish.

Also, IIRC, you have been assembling your own Texas Special? Besides the diner, any of Lowell's other cars MKT/Frisco prototypes?

Here's a quick video of the Texas Special and Meteor running on my layout.  Most of the cars in these two consists are Lowell's cars.

@altohorn25 Very nice looking trains!  I agree with @Nato Nate 100%...and the broad curves really accentuate 'em.  Watched the video twice!

Cheerio!

Still waiting on the CSX executive cars.  Might end up cancelling my reservation, I have other items that are in transit that need paid for since LS already has the money up front on them

I know on the last few facebook lives he's done, people mention it, seems to be delayed at MT. But he also mentioned maybe changing the paint scheme to the current scheme.

Yep, keeps suggesting a poll to change or not.  But nothing ever comes of it.  I have 2 F40 whatevers in primer, they were going to be YN3.  That was months ago.  At this point, he can do both paint schemes, think both would sell well.  And the page still says a 2022 offering, well there's only 26 days left.......

Any news on the UP "Western" sleeper  announced early this year? My first order for him .... how long does it usually take from paying up front and actually getting the model?
