Who here has installed a LokSound 5 decoder in a Fox Valley SD70ACe? Did you use the Kato-form factor board decoder or the decoder with the NEM651 plug? Any frame modification? What speaker did you use? Thinking of making this my next sound project.

Sorry, can't help: Without checking, I think I've only done one and I used the v4 early atlas board, if I recall. Didn't bother with frame mods but if I'd have done so, I think the result would've been better as it'd allow for a bigger speaker / box combo.

I used the Kato board, removed the two nubs holding light board at rear of frame. Soberton 12x8mm speaker and some caps.

I did a FVM SD70ACe with a NEM651 sound decoder (in this case it was a Zimo), and personally, I wouldn't go that route again. I was new to DCC & Sound, so I thought an NEM651 would be the easy way out, and it really wasn't.
