Wow! It says they're doing L shaped windows on the SP units, but the artwork also shows SP style lighting on the nose. This might be a first for Atlas with this kind of road specific detailing on an N scale loco.

Also, it seems like a couple MFR's have gone away from ESU for their sound units. Wonder why.

Kudos for doing the SD45. A sharp kick in the butt for no UP - they only had a mere 50 of 'em. And no ATSF, either; they had 125. I expect I will not be alive by the next release with those schemes. W. T. F.

I was wondering about this too. I'm starting to lean towards this possibly being a mistake.

....but it's mentioned in a few different places as being a new N scale model, so maybe not.

I'm hoping they mold the handrails as part of the walkways. I'm tired of the lokies that have had separate handrails that always come unsecured. It would be great to see them do GN Big Sky Blue. The paint on the Kato units was horrible.

I've never really noticed this as much of a problem with Atlas locos. I also much prefer the current way of doing handrails versus the way it was done during the Atlas/Kato days, with the two-piece handrail/walkway assembly. Those always seemed to have an unsightly gap at the corner between the walkway tread and the side sill, not to mention the goofy stepwell arrangements.

I went back and re-read the listings. So they are offering undecs. I bet they will be instantly snapped-up by UP and Santa Fe modelers, so I may as well put my pre-order in now.

Especially considering their offering road-specific details, I can't help but think they're trying to scoop ScaleTrains. I would prefer ST if it came to a choice, but given no hints from them about plans to port their HO model to N, I should hedge my bet with the Atlas version, pretty much figuring that undecs will be an investment with at least a break-even return.

Wouldn't this frame and mechanism also be suitable for the SD38/SD39/SD40s as well? If so, definitely lots of potential...

It is interesting because every other announcement has ESU decoder, the SD45 is the only one with Soundtraxx decoders. I wonder if the next catalog will have more Soundtraxx or will switch back to ESU...

I am disappointed at the listing too. No SF (my favorite road), no PC (second largest roster after SP, most are with ex PRR units ordered in 67-68) or CR (ex EL, RDG, PC). Good on them for going with EL, NYSW, and NW with the bicentennial unit.

Hopefully these are delivered quickly and the next run is announced with more road names.

I am confused, on the flyer it says the sound equipped units will be equipped with Soundtraxx decoders. I do not want Soundtraxx decoders myself, so I looked at the silver version stats, and it said it takes a 21 pin decoder. I am not sure, but last I checked 21 pin decoders won't fit in N Scale engines...
