Most every transformer of this size I've ever seen is the standard primer grey. 

And upon your mentioning, it does look like each side has 4 cables, 2 from TF to the deck straight and 2 diagonally to the deck

Gray - agreed. Safe color. There are a few images floating around of other colors - green, a very dark blue/gray - but if you stay with basic gray you'll be fine. On the transformer I did for my Schnabel, it had a rust colored panel on one side per prototype photos. In the photos I've viewed, this isn't common.
