They look good. I missed pre-ordering these so I’m waiting for someone to have the Huron Central ones in stock, somewhere

ModelTrainStuff will have them, they are under "Coming soon"  I think if you order now it is like a pre-order.  But don't quote me on that.  You can also go to each unit's page and click the "Notify Me" button to p0ut in your email address and MBK will email you when they are on the website as available.

So is anyone besides Lombard Hobbies selling these online? I've not seen them listed on MBK, N Scale Supply, Trainlife, or any other online retailer yet.

MBK has them listed at $221 (Gold) and $127 (Silver).

ModelTrainStuff (MBK) still has them in the "Coming Soon" category so perhaps they haven't got their shipment yet or are working through pre-orders first.

Really weird, I have been stalking them just because and have never seen them on MBK. I have my four that we're pre-ordered at Lombard last November iirc... got them for $95 each, and I see they're selling the Gold DCC/Sound units for $170. Best price I've seen and they're actually in stock.

It's like Lombard is the only retailer that has received any yet.

Yeah I am not seeing anyone else that actually has them and is shipping.  Have one silver coming from Lombard to evaluate before I buy a second.  The next may be a gold with sound though since it is a wash with the decoder installed price wise.

IIRC, modeltrainstuff doesn’t do preorders, you just have to get it when it goes in stock. I’ve been set up to get the email notification on them, so we will see

I've missed out on some releases this way, so for stuff I can't live without I preorder elsewhere (like Lombard and N Scale Supply). When I get around to preordering the Rapido barrel ore hoppers that'll probably do me for a year or two preorder wise... unless Prairie Shadows announces a second run of cylindrical covered hoppers  :scared:

Yeah I had to pull the trigger on one from Lombard; should make an excellent modern short line loco. I got a striped one that I want to attempt to weather like they were right before they were sold.

Speaking of that, if anyone gets one to put under a standard shell, I’d love to buy the shell off you.

So, these locos didn't have dynamic brakes? Are there no mountainous passes up there in the great white north?

CN was strictly a power braking outfit back in those days. These units were meant for speed trains.

I found one at a price that was higher than I've seen places advertising (but don't have them in stock yet), at Hobbylinc. I don't shop there often, but it showed in stock and ready to order, so I'll give them a go. At least this way I have at least one of the G&W road numbers (I don't really need Huron Central, but the way G&W moves things around, it's totally plausible anywhere).

So, these locos didn't have dynamic brakes? Are there no mountainous passes up there in the great white north?

CN had something near 400 GP9's, all equipped with DB for example as were other first generation units. They found that the cost of maintaining DB was not worth the benefit as their route through the Rockies, though not gradeless, was built in the early 1900's and to a pretty high standard. Not to mention it traversed through the easiest pass in the Canadian West, the Yellowhead Pass. The sacrifice was routing the mainline much further north than CP, passing through Edmonton... which put them on a trajectory through an arguably better grain growing area than CP's arid route to the south. But I digress. CN's toughest mainline grade was actually in Ontario along on the Hamilton - Fort Erie main as it paralleled the Welland Canal. Which was bypassed in the 70's as part of a rebuild of the canal. In time DB was disconnected from all of their GP9's and likely every other first generation unit so equipped.

After sampling some early DB equipped second generation units, notably a pair of GP35, all 16 GP40, their first eight SD40's (5000-5007), and first two C630M's (2000-2001), they began to order DB only on select locomotives that we're to be assigned to heavy trains out west. The balance of their 241 SD40's saw a smattering of units with DB, largely 5100 series (5112 to 5131? or thereabouts, no Trackside Guide handy to look up), so something like 28 had DB. Pretty sure all of these units except the SD40's has DB removed (I'm not certain of GP35DB being deactivated, but it's highly likely). The next fleets CN bought were 111 GP38-2/-2W and 80 M420, the 233 GP40-2L and 35 GP40-2W. All lacked DB. With the SD40-2W deliveries CN started ordering select units with DB... can't recall the exact number but I think less than half of the 123 units were so equipped. The 20 HR-616 and 10 HR-412 were not equipped with DB (I'm fairly certain of this but not 100%). Finally, with the arrival of the SD50F's in the mid 80's CN returned to ordering DB on all new power, and that hasn't changed to this day. And all SD40's that went through rebuild in the 90's (CN 6000-6028, GCFX 6030-6079, split lease KCS unit's in the KCS 6600 series iirc) had DB added.

But no GP40-2L or GP40-2W ever operated as a CN unit with DB... only the units KCS got has them added.

You really can't say never with the G&W fleet.

I have CORP G&W units operating in York, PA on my layout.  Not far fetched, as they were operating on the next property over on the Maryland Midland after G&W bought out MMID and repainted their Gp38-3 fleet and shipped them west.  And MMID currently has 2 units from the Bay Line running up here, one in G&W while the other is still in CN paint.  We've also seen G&W units from the midwest every once in a while.

Exactly. I'm still in the tinkering in design phase of my "layout", and I think I'm going to do a G&W themed layout, so getting any power is good.
