Oh snap.

Whew!

9632 is actually the last GP40-2L, with 9633 being first GP40-2W... close enough. Wonder if it was on purpose or just coincidence that CR was not given any of the -2W's? 9633-9667 were built in 1976, so depending on when CR leased CN units, the -2W's having been brand new or possibly not delivered yet may be a factor...

They showed up today, made it here in under 24hrs, so hats off to Lombard Hobbies for basically teleporting them. I've not found by trusty power pack (my belongings are in storage, needle in a haystack) so I can't actually run them yet, but they look like a typical Atlas locomotive. They have separate grabs on the nose but otherwise they are molded. To me this isn't an issue because they didn't cost $150 per, and this is a 'fleet' type of locomotive so easier to get ten or 12 of them at the lower price point. The paint is well done but the cabside numbers look fuzzy to me, and I'm certain that the CN gray will not match Intermountain or Rapido's take on it because it never does.

My only real complaint, and it's minor, is that they don't come with a front snowplow, which is easy enough to rectify except the zebra (Sargent stripes to some) scheme plows have a pair of stripes on them that for a V... so a little extra work would be required.

Lock 244, do you mind taking a photo of the mechanical for the rest if us?

I've got 3 MKT GP's that could really use a sound equipped short fuel tank mechanism.

Technically none of those are GP40-2W's  :ashat:

Am I missing something or do I need more coffee? My knowledge of Canadian locos is pretty limited is the Atlas model not accurate?. There is a pair of these bracketing a pair of Alco units also in CN stripes on the Panhandle Volume 1 DVD pulling a train of N&W coal hoppers by Columbus Union Station and the 4th St switch tenders shack in downtown Columbus. The video is too grainy get thr unit numbers. There is also photos of 9499 as well.as 9513 could to 9514 around around locomotive servicing area in Buckeye Yard in Columbus. Even though thr numbers Atlas ran are not these I was thinking of getting one to add to my Columbus based planned layout.  Thanks.

Its in connection the locomotives Conrail leased. They leased some GP40-2LWs, Atlas has made a model of the GP40-2W. Not sure what the L is for.

So from what I can tell, the "L" designation is about them being a lighter frame, which allowed them to use a 3000 gallon fuel tank. Because of that, they rode 2 inches higher, so in N scale I'm not really sure you'd be able to see that. Tank size yes, but the ride height, I doubt.

The height difference is closer to five inches, it's quite noticeable on the prototype when two are coupled together. I can't support that with any documentation of course, but it's supported by CN's own diesel data book from the 1970's (I have digital copies but my desktop is packed away, cannot access atm). All were to be GP40-2L's, however a collision before the order for 9633-9667 was placed saw a frame buckle and bend in such a way that the crew was trapped in the cab. As a result the final CN order for 35 units were ordered with a standard frame like the GO Transit units.

Did they have the mechanism on display at Trainfest? These have the short fuel tank and I'm hoping it is compatible with other Atlas shells allowing for swaps with GP38/39/40 serise shells that need short fuel

Not sure if these pics help, best I could do without prying the shell off. The wired pickups on the trucks (last pic) was a surprise... is this new or have I just not been paying attention?

Atlas went with wired pickups on the GP40 (et al) when they released sound versions in 2018. I assume this new model uses the same chassis, although I haven't received mine yet so that's just an assumption.

Interesting, I didn't know they had made a change, but the again it's been a while since I bought an Atlas locomotive.

I think he said the frame in the pic is from a GP40.

Definitely the wrong trucks on the model. Not as egregious and error as the Canadian C630's riding on tri-mount trucks, but ffs Atlas you actually do already make the correct trucks  :facepalm:
