Time to try scratch building one of the pier building sides. Pier 38 & 40 will be the prototype since I was able to get some street view pics as well as a drawing of the pier structure. Pier 40 today is 104 years old and vacant for over a decade. The concrete and the structure are in bad shape. I will not be making it THAT weathered!



Since I am building in the 40's / 50's, that means the pier was only 20-30 years old so the concrete was in much better shape. I made some slight mods during the build and forgot to increase the height of the tackle beam. Since this one is going on the far left and wont be in full view because of Baily's Warehouse, I'm ok with this one. Next one will have the tackle beam a 1/4in taller.

Thanks guys. The pier side was painted with a base of Vallejo 71.132 Aged White then all raised areas got 71.119 White Gray. Once dry, a very diluted 76.513 Brown wash with some dry brushing of 76.521 Oiled Earth wash. The corrugated doors and windows were shot with 71.065 Steel and got the same Brown wash to dull them down. The bottoms of the doors was Oiled Earth dry brushed full strength.

Bob, it is all Evergreen styrene except to the .80 x .40 Grandt Line windows. The windows are not right, too small. Since I don't have an SLA Printer to make 1.00 x 0.750 windows, it is the best I could do. I will take a few pics during construction of the next one.

Quick test print of the windows from the file bob sent .. these were printed flat so that's why the extra resin in spots ..  who wants to print 60 or 80 :)

John, the 1.5mm print looks fantastic for the window. I have NO qualms in offering some merchandise to whomever wants to help. Especially you John. Actual Qty is 65 with some changes I am making to the layout plan.

I'm taking out the T2 tanker and putting in more realistic facilities for Bisbee Linseed Oil, Publicker Alcohol and W.J. McCahan Sugar since I just acquired Walthers Consolidated Dairy and Empire Leather Tanning kits from an RC friend. There is enough buildings there to make a nice area in the corner.

The first 15 are off the printer ..  should have them done by early next week. 




The window mullions are recessed a bit so when this is painted it should show up with some relief

 

IMHO - this type of thing (unique custom parts, rather than whole models) is where think these can improve models ..

As I said earlier, after acquiring Walthers Consolidated Dairy and Empire Leather Tanning kits, a redesign of the right hand corner was in order to bring more realism and better representation of the industries in that area. I added a half pier to the last slip to hide the back of the ship that does not exist. The next industry is Bisbee Linseed Oil. To it's right is the massive complex of Publicker Commercial Alcohol. Two of the six tracks will be for boxcar loading of the 55 Gal drums and packaged 1Gal cans. The four tracks are to hold twelve tankcars using my TankCar Loading Platforms. The large tanks will be scratched to make the mold for the resin copies. Still thunking on what will go into the empty area. I might add Baugh & Sons Fertilizer plant. It actually was north at Moore St, but it will go where I can fit it. The empty space will be hard pressed to get rail in there and Baugh did not use rail service so ......

The windows John printed from my file arrived after a wrong delivery from a lexic-dis carrier. These are amazing John!! To be able to do this just pushed me over the brink and I am looking at purchasing an Anycubic Photon M3 Max printer while they are on sale.



I have also finished fleshing out the new industrial area with adding Baugh & Sons. I discovered that they did actually have some rail in the property so I will be sharing the last tankcar track between Publicker and Baugh & Sons. I also started on some of the last module. The complex at the bottom will be General Manufacturing and across the street on the corner will be Johns Roast Pork.



Some other research of the U-Haul building on Oregon Ave turned up that it was originally the PRR Cold Storage in the PRR Perishable Products Terminal right behind the Delaware Lumber yard. Here are two pics; the first being the conditions of the building right after U-Haul purchased it after being empty for many years. The second pic shows that they restored all of the brick and ornate trim in tan. It looks stunning to me. You can also see they restored all of the PRR Keystone heralds at each building corner. The long building on the bottom of the track plan was going to be another Merchants Warehouse but will now be a scratch built PRR Cold Storage.
