ALCo HH600/600

They make them in HO, why not N. I would buy a small fleet!

Do they have the same wheelbase as the S series?

No, the high hoods are shorter.
They share the same cab and Blunt trucks though.

Even more obvious would be a FM H-10-44....it could use the VO-1000 mech.   But with all the Walters tooling they have lots of "new" products to work through without much beyond minor tooling upgrades/maintenance.

I would buy some of these as well.  Honestly are there any locomotives they make in HO and not in N that wouldn’t sell in N!

The FM switchers are a glaring omission in N scale.  Nearly all the Class I's owned some of them and they had extended lives as industrial switchers after the Class I's moved on.  I just don't understand how the FM H10/44 and H12/44 aren't being made by someone.  The Trix model may have been OK in its day, but it's day passed 40 years ago.

I have a long wish list with Atlas -  FM switchers as pointed out by OP, or another run of the Baldwin VO-1000 or Shay or MP15DC..the list goes on. I'm glad they have announced the Trainmaster and RS locomotives with loksound though.

And the Trix versions were models of the very last H12's built (1957 IIRC)- so they are about 3 feet shorter, and more "spartan" than the earlier H12's (and all the H10's).

I'd definitely buy an H10- or H12-44.  I might well buy an HH-600/660 (or 900 or 1000), if my budget allows.

I suspect that if the HH600 is on Atlas N scale desktop planner, it is near the bottom of the list. If I added correctly, there were 122 units built between HH600s and 660s. 3 different body styles, plus it appears some also had the turbochargers added- or had the larger radiator usually applied to HH900 or HH1000.  I don't know how many thousand units Atlas needs to pay off a new chassis and tooling several body styles, but it does strike me as a risk.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

Rock Island had one as the El Reno, OK shop switcher, so I would be in for one.

Amen to that!
Below is the closest thing I have found. Obviously started as a Minitrix model. The big spotting feature is the placement of the large grill mid-body.

Paul Graf was looking at my then recently completed bash at the N Scale convention in Milwaukee a few years ago. Hopefully it made an impression.

Very nice! What did you use for handrails?

Thanks!
Those are from the Atlas S2 donor.  The ends were modified with styrene strip to have vertical stanchions and the side rails were shortened at the cab end.
The model is a shortened S2 chassis and uses the stock cab, railings and trucks. The hood is scratch built from styrene.
