Ok tell me again. Was there any sort of crossover period with the red vs. yellow frame stripes? I know it likely didn't last long. To my distant observer eyes, it seemed like it happened very quickly. I can't seem to find any pictures of a train with both. So it appears I can't legally run a train with both red and yellow frame stripes in the locomotive consist. What was the cutoff date? Help me, frame stripe police. Just wondering.

So it appears there could have been some kind of window in which to see both red & yellow together.

Just for a teaser maybe I'll model of 70ACe with a red stripe. See if anybody says something at a show. Tee hee.

Not sure what dates your shooting for, but my "mind's eye" jives with that article.  Without regurgitating the referenced article verbatim, (which is great, btw, thanks for posting) I'm certain the 2005-2010 window would easily find both.  Probably more like 2006 before there would be a significant amount of yellow striped units, and I would bet at least a little money that there were still some after that 2010 cutoff. (which may have been officially or unofficially extended)

Brings back sad memories of when UP seemingly repainted (or sold/retired) the entire MKT fleet in a matter of months.   I know it wasn't quite that quickly but it seemed unusually fast that all of a sudden I saw zero MKT units roaming around.  (in contrast to SP painted--albeit patched--units still on the roster 25+ years later.)   It certainly didn't take them 5 years.

   Some old digital photos I took.  The GP-60s low light with stripes shining were taken in late 2000's and sunshine ones were taken 9-19-2014 with newer camera.  The lowlight ones were downloaded from my oldest digital camera 4-12-2009, but taken a few years earlier.  I am amazed that my pocket camera flash illuminated the stripes!  Hope that these will help.  The last photo compares my N scale LifeLike GP20 red stripe with Walthers GP60 yellow stripe.
