17-736-K Amtrak ALC-42 Charger #301 "Day One" Paint Scheme
10-1788 Amtrak ALC-42 Charger #302 Phase VI Paint Scheme + 4 car Superliner set
10-1789 6 car Superliner Addon set
28-952 Vehicle case American double-decker passenger car for 6 cars (Hobby Center Kato product)

https://www.katomodels.com/product/n/alc42_superliner

Kinda surprised that 302 will only be offered with a 4 car set. Phase 6 in the set, no Phase 7.

Cool, different numbers for the superliners in phase IVb and the car cases are welcome addition.

Awesome news, but that's the Kato Japan website with prices in Yen. Kato USA's site hasn't announced this nor a definitive release date to the US market. So we shall see if the US release date is the same or later down the line.

Superliner's page is updated:
https://katousa.com/n-superliner/

There is a landing page for the ALC-42. But it seems to be linked to a bad page as it errors out and says it no longer exists.

Locos are up now and they are doing 5 numbers 300, 301, 303 and 304, 302 comes with the car set.
The open section can be lit with the passenger car led kit and it sound ready.

Did anyone else notice that they’ve switched from ESU to Soundtraxx decoders?

Hmmmm. . .  IMO, not the best move (especially after ESU started making plug-n-play decoders for Kato).

I concur. I have had trouble with Soundtraxx decoders in the past. Notably, the Athearn F45s. Although the Bachmann steamers with sound have been fine, so far.

for those who don't like Kato's current offering of sound decoder choice in these...

Myself and Lombard Hobbies will be offering a solution for that.

Enjoy!

I’m curious if this “DCC ready” design will let me easily install alternating ditch lights.

It's gonna be exactly the same deal as the P42s. There's light pipes coming from the same front LED source. In the Kato preview video there's no evidence of separate LEDs for ditch lights. So if you want alternating ditch lights, you'll have to DIY using an aftermarket decoder with multiple function outputs.
