A sound equipped RSD looks fun. Though I'm surprised they are only offering it with the RSDs and not the RSes. Atleast with Atlas's older runs they shared an identical chassis.

The RS-3 units also will be sound-equipped.  The two models still share the same chassis.

Did you miss all the RS3s?

I probably should have been more specific in my lament about which roads I model.  But we are seeing lots of blue and yellow ATSF units lately, but few zebra stripes.  And Erie Lackawanna instead of Erie. L&N 60s paint scheme.  I assume the PRR and NH are 50s- but I don't model either of them.  Not sure when D&H adopted the gray-blue scheme.

From a marketing point of view, it probably makes sense. As time goes on, manufacturers are making models of more modern prototypes.  And no doubt the modelers who buy those more modern locos want other models in the more modern paint schemes (60s or 70s era paint schemes on GP-9s or RS-3s) to go with Uboats and SD-40-2s, etc- certainly realistic for folks modeling those timeframes.  But it does leave those of us modeling the mid 50s and earlier with fewer options other than painting our own.

Luckily for me, my 20 year old Kato Fs and Atlas geeps in 50s paint schemes seem likely to outlive me, and I have done enough TCS CN DCC installs to feel comfortable doing it.

Same here, which is good if pre-orders start showing up

Do I need another Beaten 23?

Absolutely.

The answer, of course, is yes.
I literally have about 30 of these and I'll still get one. If for no other reason that I want to see how these sound compared to my ESU installations.

Oh yes, that's my thinking too.

I've got some I'm waiting for that I  "have to have," so all will end up well, at least for a bit.

😆 🤣 😂

I wonder if the older shells will fit on the new sound mechs.  I have some detailed Reading units to which I would love to add sound.

I’ve got a couple geeps that I’ve done that with, and the only issue is the light tubes. Atlas filled in the notch where the bulb used to sit and the new light tubes are thinner and run up the top to the LED. So the old shells will sit slightly propped up. Swapping the light tubes would fix that though.

No Conrail B36-7’s either.  I was excited to see the GE Dash 7’s in the announcement, then disappointed that the owner of the second largest fleet was not represented again.  Hopefully the next run.

Atlas is gonna run those GE B unit molds until they wear out like an early GE diesel.

Not much of interest here, which might be good with what's on pre order at Scale Trains. Expecting my shipment of Rapido GP20s too.

Yes that is what I was wondering; if the previous Atlas/China shells will fit.  I suspect they might as while there will have to be changes to the mechanism, they would probably want to avoid altering the tooling for the shells.  That being said, there are some errors which could be fixed . . .

Poor choice of road numbers for the British Columbia Railway RS-3s - 561 had a unique-sized cab logo and 569 was a chop-nose . . . email sent.
