@BCR 570 that bottle of Solvaset looks to be about as old as mine...  late 80s vintage, maybe?

That welded art car is the kind of graffiti I can support!  Mad skills, there.  What an opportunity for tourist lines!  The maritime museum near me has regular classes in old world ship building skills, such as rope work, bronze casting, woodworking etc.  Wouldn't it be cool to have a go at the back shop tools at a railway to create some heavy metal art?  (The insurance guys would have a heart attack, but we could always weld up a nice cage to put them in!)

I've got enough crap in my junk boxes... I might make a project out of something like that!

Definitely had it a while, but used sparingly it lasts a long time.  I do have a newer bottle ready to take over.

I got to go visit the gentleman who brought a gift caboose to my layout last week (see Weekend Update 5/29/22). He paints and details airplanes, model cars and trains. Cabeese are his specialty (especially NE cabins).

He usually starts with a Bachmann or LifeLike shell and appropriately paints (body, railings, steps, etc.) and decals them. He then puts on an MT smokestack and appropriate Atlas caboose trucks (single leaf sprung) and body mounts MT couplers.

He will then add appropriate details such as blanking out windows, adding rain gutters to the LV cabeese, extra decals to CNJ caboose assignments. The Penn Central cabin was inherited from the LV and was classified as an N5G.

He has an extensive library of Morning Sun books to get the cabin details correct.

Here is some of his work. (Sorry guys, I already bought the PRR Quality Craft N6):
(If anyone is interested, I believe he sells them for around $35-$40.
PM me and I’ll PM his name and phone number – he is not on the forums or computers).

A WM just to keep @wm3798 happy.

Trying to learn how to do tire tread in Fusion 360, while making a model of a model. Not a particularly brilliant idea. The original article, in August '85 Model Railroader, is good but lacks a few dimensions. Perhaps if the author had gone back and tried to build a second one from his article it would've helped as he could have found missing data.

Not trying to rain on the parade or nitpick but it does stand out, since I can't readily find pictures of those specific CNJ cabeese, are those specific numbers supposed to have a window behind the stove? At least when I researched doing mine I couldn't find an NE withought it, would have made detailing a lot easier.

I'm not the caboose expert. I'm just thrilled with the gentleman's work, the Pennsy N6 and his Reading gift.
I do know he has a BIG pile of caboose books and gets buried in details.

Lee: My Solvaset might be even older.  I'm using a bottle like the one pictured, and have another, unopened, one.  I also have an unopened bottle with the older all-blue label, that still says HOBSCO will replace it if defective.  They both have $2.98 price stickers, so were probably bought about the same time.

The LeTourneau looks good.  Which model is it?  I'm only asking because Clever Creek Minatures already has a 4594 available, in case you're interested.  https://clevercreekminiatures.ca/forestry-equipment

Was that from the guy who had the N scale shop in his garage in Renton (think it was Carl King)?  I think he closed in the late 90's!

@sirenwerks The MR article doesn't state what model the article is based on but given what I have seen I should imagine a 2582 or 2682. The Clever Creek model is nice but a log handler and could benefit by the addition of a winch motor to raise and lower the forks...

Yep.  Carl King.
K.S.S. was King Street Station.  He was at all of the PNW shows and always had a very large selection with great discounts.
I still have a few Sunrise parts packages with that same distinctive price sticker.

6 years ago today, we planted our first trees on Ken Kime's Western Maryland Dutch Line O scale layout.

Today, they planted what they are estimating to be the 1000th tree on Jacks Mountain.
