I don't think the "Hawkeye Express" was for the football team.  I think it was for the fans.

Hawkeye Express was a commuter service 'So-To-Speak' that would shuttle fans from a large mall parking up to the stadium steps, which greatly reduced traffic/parking around the stadium.

I don't know the true reasons to cancel it, but I'm guessing in 2019/2020 it had upcoming maintenance/inspection/rebuild expenses...
... then it sat parked for a year due to covid... 2020
... then it sat parked for another year 2021 due to mask guidelines in open air double deck cars +Insurance concerns +operating costs..

After 2 years of no operation + I'm guessing reduced at game attendance, it was decided to cancel operation.

Again.. no first hand knowledge, but thats what I gather with bits and pieces if inside info.

Well, OK, but what about the normally aspirated Encabulator driven by a 2000HP Bulch-Sulzer, the same 10 cylinder prime mover GE used in IC 9201?

I finally decided to finish tackling my Santa Fe E1 A unit which I've been putting off for too long.  I have been concerned about being able to mask the complex curves of the warbonnet livery on the nose and sides of the carbody correctly.

The yellow/black decals will hide the imperfections in the masking.  Overall, I'm satisfied with the result so far.

Just like covering up the foam with basic scenery,  I covered the purple drywall with primer.

Nice to  see that another layout will be housed in a purposefully-built finished room, not a raw grungy basement. No disrespect meant to many wonderful grungy basement layouts, but it is so much more pleasant to "play" in a bright finished room.

Nate, are the E1 shells you are using the 3D prints from Robert Nunes? I have one of his Hudson shells and am impressed with the quality.

I finished the paint and decals on my Santa Fe E1A to go with the E1B that I had completed a while back. The red really pops in the photographs just as it should (Testors Modelmaster Caboose Red Flat).

Thanks to Mike Skibbe and Marc Van Cleven for not letting me get away with the sloppy decal work. I'm happy I fixed it and most people will never have known there was an issue.

These are printed shells on Kato E7 mechanisms with Digitrax DCC added. Various acrylic paints were used in addition to rattle can Dull Aluminum for the carbodies. A combination of Microscale decal sets were used in order to get the correct combination of lettering and graphics.

I still need to add the Krystal Klear for the window glass and headlight lense, but I'm calling it done for tonight. My eyes are tired....

I got them off Ebay; yes, it's the same gentleman making the shells for various motive power and the New York Central 20th Century and Empire State Express.

Yes, they are quite nice.  He even sent me another set when he saw photos and thought the layering was too pronounced.....nice guy all around I would say.

The shell looks great!

In my experience Krystal Klear does not look very convincing for flat-glass windows. I don't care for that stuff and don't use it unless there is no alternative.  Its surface does not dry flat but concave:  Thicker around the edges, and  thin in the center.  Flat windows look like lenses (or architectural glass blocks). It also is not as glossy as glass.  IMO, if you just glued in some clear 0.005" or 0.010" styrene on the inside of the shell, that would much more better (more realistic), even being inset from the surface by the shell's thickness.

What paint did you use?  I'm especially curious about the not-too-shiny silver color.

-Yellow and Black are decals (Modelflex UP Armour Yellow for touch up)
-Red is Testors Modelmaster Caboose Red Flat
-Truck color on the A unit (I forgot to paint the sideframes on the B unit) is Tamyia Chrome Silver
-Black exhust weathering is Modelflex Flat Black

I really like this for Santa Fe Stainless Steel color - looks like the paint after it had been on the road a while.
