Ferns?

I have seen the etched brass fretts of ferns and, well, IMO they are big enough to be considered something out of Jurassic Park.  Ferns are so prominent in the Pacific NW I can't ignore them; I need something more than blackberry thicket under my trees.  Does anyone have other ways of modeling ferns en masse?

I bought some HO ferns from JJT scenery. They were nice, but also seemed too big for HO. Think they were laser cut paper, but came assembled. I cut some tips off and glued them around here and there.

There are several types of cheap palm tree on EBay which are easily adapted.  I have used them successfully as ferns and tree-ferns in 1:350 scale.

I was contemplating using pieces of some very small feathers dyed dark green.  Haven't done it yet.

I’m modelling a section on Vancouver Island which is ultimately a rainforest. Pretty much zero ground visible due to the thickness of the under story and, same as you, ferns.

I’m going to try floral moss puréed in a magic bullet. If you wet it, chop it up, and then dry it, it gets pretty fine. That’s the only way to make the copious amounts I’ll need.

Noch has a fern set if you can find them.  Not certain if a current item or not

A four foot fern would be a bit over an eighth inch in N.  Balled up green lint?  I'd go with WS coarse ground foam but they don't have it in fern green.
