The Housatonic RR in N scale

It happens!  I have been experimenting with different techniques on each application.  I figure, worst case, at $.99 per sheet, mistakes are easily replaced.

The scene represents Bridge Street and Railroad Street, in New Milford, CT.  I have a continuous running track that runs along the backdrop, around the entire layout.  It actually passes through the back of the bridge superstructure at a 90 degree angle.  I used a "front reflecting" mirror to hide that track and trains on it, as well as extending the view to make it look like a complete bridge to operators that look into it.  Again, nothing is glued down or painted yet.

Life imitates art or vice versa?

I went to a presentation sponsored by the Falls Village, CT Historical Society last evening. The topic was the early days of the New Housatonic RR, which started in the early 1980's. One of the photos shown, which I had never seen before, was taken by Rolf Schneider, who owned a great Model Train & Hobby shop right near the Canaan station.

Rolf's photo showed the newly acquired Housatonic RR GP-7 #7324, right after it got it's initial coat of paint in the HRRC color scheme. The unit was a former Pennsy unit, later Conrail and finally acquired by the Housatonic around 1990. It triggered a memory of a photo I took almost 2 years ago of my attempts at modifying an N scale Atlas GP-7 shell to represent the #7324 for my layout. This was my very first attempt at custom painting a locomotive shell. Both photos show our units after paint but before number boards and decals. I found that interesting. 😉

I added color and road markings to the New Milford portion of the layout this weekend.  I still need to seal the roads with dullcoat and weather the road markings to tone them down a bit.

Looks great!

I was up in that neck of the woods a few weekends ago...  Didn't realize how close to RT44 the stub end of track that serves the plant is.  The "Wye" is always great to visit, at some point I have to drive up there and spend an afternoon to see if I can catch some train movements.

That stub track to the east of the wye and serving Specialty Minerals is one of the last pieces of the old Central New England RR that still sees wheels turning on the rails, or that even has rails.
